Wendy was simply reminding Josephine that she should save money before leaving Elysium. After that, she could think of a way of getting out.
"Josephine, what are you thinking?" Wendy waved a hand before Josephine. She comforted Josephine. "Don't be down. You just got here. Your salary will increase with time."
She thought that Josephine was sad because her salary was low.
Josephine forced a smile. "Alright, I got it. I will do my best at work."
Josephine didn't even know how much her salary was at this point. Conrad had simply brought her there and forgot about the rest. He didn't even give her any paperwork for new hires or tell her about the salary.
At this, Josephine couldn't help but want to look for Conrad and ask about it.
After taking a turn around the place, Wendy sighed. "Oh, these clothes are gorgeous. I wonder when I'll be able to fulfill my dream of buying clothes here."
"You'll get to soon."
Wendy smiled at her. "You're always so nice. I'm nearly done shopping. Do you still want to look around?"
Josephine shook her head. "I feel like heading back."
She was so tired that walking was difficult now. If she had a bed, she would surely fall asleep immediately.
"Then let's go. I should be going home too."
Wendy took her arm and led her out of the mall. She said, "With you here, I finally have a friend. The other two women in the department are married. If they're not working, they're dealing with their kids. There's no one to shop with me on days off."
Wendy chattered a lot. She complained that working at the company was pretty lonely.
Actually, there were colleagues trying to pursue her, but Wendy didn't want to date. Furthermore, she had no desire to get married and have kids. She liked the freedom of being on her own.
Josephine listened quietly, a smile on her lips.
Although Wendy wasn't rich, Josephine could see she had found her happiness.
When they got to the roadside, Wendy hailed a cab, asking if Josephine wanted to leave with her.
Josephine rejected her since they weren't going in the same direction.
Once Wendy left, Josephine turned to look at the two bodyguards nearby.
They weren't too near, but they remained within Josephine's line of sight. Sometimes, they would hide themselves very well, not letting anyone spot them.
Josephine was thinking of getting them to bring her back to Styx Mansion when a black Maybach abruptly stopped before her.
She recognized it as Lewis' car.
After hesitating for a second, Josephine still got in the car in the end.
"Did you have fun?" Lewis asked.
Josephine turned to look at him. He was still wearing that black suit. He looked exactly like he had in Sierra's ward.
A few hours ago, he used this tone when chatting with Sierra. It felt a bit mocking that he was asking her this with the same tone now.
Josephine looked away and put on her seatbelt. "Yeah, I had fun."
"Why the long face if you had fun, then?"
Josephine turned to look out the window, ignoring his words.
Lewis started the car and drove off. Neither of them said anything during the trip, leaving the car as silent as the grave.
Thinking of something, Josephine suddenly asked him, "How much is my monthly salary now?"
Lewis' gaze flickered when he heard that. He focused on the road before him and said half-heartedly, "Why are you asking this all of a sudden? Don't you have enough to spend?"
Josephine lowered her head. She wasn't even spending money.
Lewis had a card connected to her phone that she could use at any time. Lewis had it frozen before. She didn't even know if it had been unfrozen.
"No, I'm just asking. There's no point for me to work for you for nothing, right?"
Lewis laughed at that. "How much do you want?"
He made it sound like he was asking how much she wanted in general, not how much she wanted for her salary.
As long as she said the word, she would receive a transfer immediately.
But the money would always be his. If he wanted to, he could stop giving her money.
If she always asked him for money, he would notice it. The key thing was that she didn't want his charity.
