When I Was a Wallflower (Leo and Amelie) novel Chapter 302

Amelie looked at Julia silently.

Julia punched the chair. "He took her away. That's all he did. Didn't even hand her over to the cops. What's he trying to do? Protect her?"

"He's powerful enough to ignore the law. I don't doubt that he can do that." Amelie cocked her eyebrow. If he thinks that's okay even after what that woman did to his daughter, then fine by me. I'll just take revenge my own way. I already have a plan, anyway.

"I can't believe he's still trying to protect her. Is he stupid or what?" Julia snapped, her eyes filled with annoyance.

Amelie felt something squeezing her heart. It wasn't total sadness, but it made her uneasy. Anyone would feel uneasy after hearing that news. She, too, wondered why Leo would go so far for Elyse. What kind of spell did she put him under?

The Alston Villa was located in a remote place. As nobody lived there most of the time, it was surrounded by tall, ancient trees, which draped the villa in a blanket of shadows. Even in the day, this place was eerie. And at night, it was downright terrifying.

Gusts of wind blew across the air, sending shudders down the spines of creatures that lived in this place. The villa was dark, save for one room illuminated by dim lights. It was where Elyse was in. Her hands were tied behind the chair, her face gleaming under the dim yellow light. There was surprise and shock in her eyes as she looked around the place. This is not the place I was expecting.

"So, tell me. Who is she?" A slender man stood in the room, the light shining on the back of his head. All Elyse could see was the outline of his face.

She froze as she looked at the man. "Leo—"

"Who is she?" Leo asked coolly, but his patience was running thin.

She felt a chill down her spine. With a trembling voice, she said, "You weren't like this before. You were nice to me, but you're scaring me now."

A whip lashed across the air, slamming down on her skin. A surge of pain surged up her head, and she let out a scream. She wanted to hold down the searing part, but her hands were tied to the chair.

"Answer his questions, or you'll get it," the bodyguard with the whip warned coldly.

The bodyguards were obviously trained. Her skin was already red from one whip, and she was crying in pain. It was too late for regrets now, but if she had turned herself in, none of this would have happened.

"Three seconds. Tell me who the donor is, or else," Leo threatened coldly before throwing a glance at the whip, hinting at the consequences she would get if she kept dilly-dallying. He took Elyse back here because she told him she knew the name of the donor. Even though he had lost all his trust in her by now, he still wanted to bet on the off chance she wasn't lying.

"I'll talk! I'll talk!" she said quickly, nodding in fear. She worried that he might kill her if she hesitated. "The donor is—"

A glint flew in from a distance, charging straight at Elyse's temple. When Leo realized what was going on, her head was already lolled to the side, and a bloody hole bored through her temple.

"What's going on?" Amelie was woken by the sounds of footsteps, and she jumped up. Thinking she was still in danger, she ran to the door and saw a group of people pushing a gurney as they left in a hurry.

Lights shone upon the corridor, and she remembered she was in the hospital. A sigh escaped her lips, and she saw two men stopping in the distance. She knew them—one was Eugene, and the other was Leo's bodyguard. Leo might not be a fan of high-profile living, but he would still bring a bodyguard or two just in case.

"No idea." Julia was in the corridor, and she flung her hair.

She stayed behind to keep an eye on Amelie and her family. She went to a bathroom outside in case the sounds of her relieving herself would disturb her friend's rest. Then, she came back to the group of people pushing a gurney along the corridor. "I saw some blood on the gurney but couldn't see who it was. Maybe Leo was killed," Julia spoke calmly.

She didn't like Leo one bit, and she didn't care even if he died. However, Amelie pursed her lips, the look on her face solemn. Leo is Bria's father. If he dies, then… She looked back into the ward.

Julia got the message, and she said, "Want to have a look?"

"Sure."

They didn't wait long. The surgery was over a while later, and Eugene came out of the room, striding across the corridor. The ladies wondered what he was doing, but they didn't follow him. Instead, they made their way to the emergency room, and a doctor came out. He took his mask off, the look on his face solemn. "We did our best. Our condolences."
"He's dead?" Julia asked in disbelief.

Even though she never liked Leo, hearing the news of his death still made her shudder. Amelie felt thunderstruck, and a hint of pain spread across her chest. They used to be so in love, and this was an unacceptable ending for her. She wobbled and staggered backward until her back was against the wall. A wave of chill seeped into her skin, snapping her out of it. "H-How did he die?"

Eugene came back and answered, "Suicide."

When he realized whom he was talking to, he looked surprised. "Miss Dillon. Miss White."

"Leo killed himself?"

The ladies were shocked, and Julia asked, "Why?"

Amelie thought that was preposterous as well. "There's no reason for him to do that." He's not depressed.

"Wait. You ladies thought Mr. Alston killed himself?" Oh, no. This is a misunderstanding. Eugene quickly explained, "You got it all wrong. Elyse was the one who died."

"Elyse Clayton?"

Amelie didn't realize it, but she heaved a sigh of relief when Eugene said Leo was still alive. Eugene noticed it, however. She still loves him. Good. Now that Elyse is dead, this makes it easier for Mr. Alston to court her. Leo told him to tell everyone that Elyse committed suicide. She was still a renowned celebrity, and if the public knew she was murdered, it would cause a lot of trouble.

"Finally. She did something decent for once in her life," Julia mocked. She thought Elyse should have died a long time ago. "I bet your boss would still protect her if she hadn't killed herself, huh?" Julia spat. She was not one for pleasantries when it came to moments like this. "Does your boss have some kind of fetish? I can't imagine why he would fall for a b*tch like Elyse otherwise."

She didn't want to be disrespectful, but Elyse had been a menace all her life, and Julia couldn't believe Leo would still side with Elyse after everything she had done. Eugene wasn't good at bickering, and he coughed. "You should ask Mr. Alston."

Then, in came Leo. He was in black, his face solemn, his gaze cold. It felt like he just came back from an execution.

Julia snickered. Just when Amelie thought Julia would mock him, her friend pushed her instead. "If you want to talk to someone, talk to her." With that, Julia left.

Some friend you are, Julia.
