"Mom's here."
Sherilyn hesitated, keeping her distance. "Mom's fine, Jenna sweetheart... Mommy took her medicine, and she'll be better soon."
"Okay, Jenna will wait for Mommy!"
"Alright, Mommy knows."
Gilbert glanced at Sophia and handed Jenna over to her, patting Jenna's head gently. "Go with Sophia and get ready for bed."
"Okay, Daddy."
Once Jenna was settled, Gilbert turned back inside.
He sat back down on the edge of the bed, touching the bowl on the tray to check the temperature. "It's not too hot now, it's just right to eat. Want me to help you sit up?"
"No need."
Sherilyn shook her head and sat up on her own.
Gilbert couldn't help but smile a little. Jenna was quite something; as soon as she was around, Sherilyn was willing to eat.
"Here we go."
Gilbert picked up the bowl, spoon in hand, scooping up a bit and bringing it to Sherilyn's lips. "Be careful, it's hot."
"I can do it myself."
Sherilyn reached out to take the bowl. It was just a minor cold, she wasn't bedridden or anything.
"Alright."
Gilbert didn't insist, letting go of the bowl.
As long as she was eating, that was what mattered.
Holding the bowl, Sherilyn paused for a moment. What was this...?
"It's tomato soup," Gilbert said, watching her with a soft smile. "Last time, when you didn't have much of an appetite, you said you wanted this. I figured you might like it."
He paused, then added, "Just like last time, I made it myself."
Sherilyn's eyelashes fluttered slightly at his words as she kept her gaze lowered.
"Go ahead and eat," Gilbert encouraged, his voice gentle. "It's been cooling for a bit. It'll taste better warm."
Sherilyn nodded, her throat tight with emotion, unable to speak.
She scooped a spoonful and tasted it.
"Take your time."
"Mm."
Rebecca understood the dynamic all too well. Pointing towards the door, she said, "Aunt, I'll go take care of the paperwork. I've already packed some of the stuff, so could you handle the rest?"
"Sure, go ahead."
"Thanks."
Rebecca nodded and went to sort out the discharge procedures.
When she returned, Faustina and Selina had nearly finished packing everything.
"Sis," Selina suddenly said, her eyes gleaming with mischief. "Where's your boyfriend? Didn't he come?"
She had heard from her mother that Rebecca had started seeing someone new after her divorce, and supposedly, he was the CEO of the Johnson Group!
How could that be possible?
Given Rebecca's circumstances?
Selina couldn't believe it.
Now, with a sly smile, Selina looked at Rebecca. "It's such an important day with Grandpa leaving the hospital. Wouldn't your boyfriend show up for something like this?"
