Chapter 162 Powerless
The sound of a sharp slap echoed through the dimly lit room, piercing the silence.
At 28 years old, william likely hadn’t been slapped since Emelie last hit him a few months back when he called her a tool.
But this time, it seemed Emelie’s slap was a lot harder.
TOOM.
Emelie was sprawled on the couch. Her chest was heaving with anger while their eyes met in the dimly lit ro
The blackout curtains obscured all light, leaving William’s expression concealed from Emelle’s view even though they were mere inches apart. William’s breathing was calm, but there was a cold determination in each exhale.
Engaged in a showdown that seemed destined to drag on forever, they were like two animals trapped in a cage, neither willing to back down.
Suddenly, a mechanical beep echoed from the doorway as someone swiped a keycard to enter the room.
Emelie wasted no time in shoving William aside. She hastily sat up and fixed her clothes, all the while wondering who could be entering. She was supposed to be the only person staying in this room.
In an instant, the living room flooded with light as someone switched on the overhead lamp
The sudden brightness was blinding, making Emelie squint before she could adjust her eyes and glance toward the doorway.
Two hotel attendants, James and Arthur, entered the room and were taken aback by the sight of William and Emelie.
After a moment’s pause, they realized what was happening and quickly apologized, “Sorry for barging in…
“We
got a call about a faulty door in Room 1702, so we used a keycard to check. We didn’t expect to find anyone here. We’re sincerely sorry for the inconvenience! We’ll leave immediately!=
Emelie shot them a puzzled look “Who called about a door issue? I’m the only one staying in this room, and I haven’t called anyone.”
“Um… We got a call from a man, claiming to be a guest in Room 1702, with the last name Hoven”
While James and Arthur continued to explain, William had already straightened his shirt.
He glanced at Emelie indifferently, but she avoided his gaze. Without saying a word, he passed by James and Arthur and exited the room.
As William left Room 1702, someone quickdy snapped a photo of the door with their phone and sent it with a message: “Stopped.”
The sudden intrusion seemed like a mere prank, so Emelie decided not to pursue it. James and Arthur, relieved by her understanding, thanked her and left, closing the door behind them.
Tronically, Emelie found herself grateful for the interruption. Otherwise, William might have stayed even longer.
She headed to the bathroom.
In a hotel like this, there was an abundance of makeup remover and skincare products. Emelle grabbed a cotton pad, squeezed some remover onto it, and scrubbed her lips vigorously.
Her lips stung from the remover, yer the scent of William lingered like a shadow that refused to dissipate.
Emelie discarded the cotton pad, poured water into a disposable cup, and grabbed a toothbrush. She started brushing herteeth.
“You’re destined to end up alone.”
William’s remark raced through her mind
