Chapter 348 Neither Side Plays Fair
Gwendolyn tensed up the moment she heard that, but she was quick to regain her composure and asked, “You’re overthinking things. Why would I want to stall for time? How would I benefit from doing that?”
Naturally, Charles did not believe her one bit.
That was when he recalled what Gwendolyn had said to him while they were arguing earlier.
She asked me if I had kept my promise to stop lying to her. Now that I think about it, she was probably referring to the antidote….
With that in mind, he narrowed his eyes menacingly and asked, “You already know that I have the antidote, don’t you?”
Gwendolyn’s expression slid into a surprised frown when she heard that. “Why would the antidote be with you? You said you left it in the palace, right?”
Charles felt increasingly uneasy when he saw the look on her face.
He then grabbed his phone and tried to contact the guards he had assigned to Alzer Palace, but no one answered his call.
F*ck! Something is definitely up!
Charles quickly gave Jonah a call and yelled, “Return to Alzer Palace right this instant! Check the place thoroughly for intruders!”
After hanging up the phone, he stood up and was about to head out when Gwendolyn grabbed him by the sleeve. “Where are you going? We’re not done here!”
“We’ll discuss that baby of yours later!” Charles replied coldly as he brushed her hand away and left.
Oh, no! Charles is way too cautious!
With that in mind, Gwendolyn tightened her grip on the ring and ran after him.
Meanwhile, Nico had searched all over Alzer Palace, but the antidote was nowhere to be found.
Hmm… The palace is the safest place to hide the antidote. Where else would Charles possibly keep it? It may be a tiny dose, but it still needs to be stored in a freezer. If he keeps it in an ice box, the temperature will increase over time as the ice melts, so he can’t possibly store it like that for over two weeks. In that case…
Nico shifted his gaze toward the tiny kitchen in Alzer Palace and searched it thoroughly once more.
This time, he managed to find a grey-colored ice box at the bottom of the freezer.
Sure enough, there was a syringe about ten centimeters in length, which contained the transparent antidote.
Aha! I’ve found the antidote!
Feeling excited, Nico quickly took his suit jacket off, wrapped it around the ice box, and put had moved back into place before jumping out the window.
He had just landed outside when he felt the icy-cold tip of a gun pressing against his back.

What followed was the sound of the gun being cocked.
There were also five guards standing on the side with their stun guns aimed at him.
The gun that was pressing against his back slowly moved up to his head as Jonah ordered, “Put that thing down and turn around with your arms raised
Instead of complying with Jonah’s orders, Nico held the ice box close to his chest and tightened his grip
on it.
Jonah let out a disdainful snort when he saw that. “Even if you somehow get lucky and escape from us, you will not be able to leave this palace. You’re not going to bring that thing out of here, so put it down and turn around! Do it now, or I will shoot you!”
Nico slowly turned around without putting the ice box down.
Charles, who happened to arrive at the same time, was slightly surprised when he saw Nico’s face under the dim street lamps.
“You? I can’t believe you lied to me about being Christian! To think that I fell for it and let you stick around for so many days…” he exclaimed with a sneer.
Nico snorted in disdain. “That’s because you’re ridiculously gullible.”
The smile on Charles’ face vanished instantly as an icy-cold expression took its place.
“What will we do with him, Mr. Lund?” Jonah asked.
“Don’t use your guns. They’re too loud. Bring him somewhere secluded and kill him,” Charles replied with a nonchalant wave.
“Hey, Charles! Do you really think these guys have what it takes to kill me?” Nico asked with a sneer. Charles arched an eyebrow at him in amusement. “Want to give it a try, then?”
Those words had barely left his mouth when Jonah delivered the first strike, but Nico dodged it in time and responded with a counterattack.
It was six versus one, but Nico was so quick that he took two of them out in just a few seconds.
Even so, he was unarmed and had to hold on to the ice box, so he wasn’t able to move freely. One of the guards managed to hit him in the back with the stun gun.
Nico’s body convulsed uncontrollably when the powerful electric current of the stun gun surged through his body. Jonah seized that opportunity to hit Nico in the back of his knee with a baton.
Nico groaned in pain as he stumbled forward. He placed his right palm on the ground to stop himself from falling, all while holding the ice box tightly in his left hand.
Charles clicked his tongue twice and said, “I know you’re a capable fighter because you were trained by Cedrick himself. However, I doubt even you would be able to go against stun guns and pistols empty- handed.”
Their conversation was interrupted when the sound of the violin from the event hall reached them. Charles was losing his patience at that point.

“You know what? Forget it. Just use the gun and make it quick. I’ll explain it to my mother later.”
“Got it.” Jonah whipped his gun out and pointed it at Nico’s head once again.
