Chapter 478 The Torment Continues
Craig went pale and clenched his jaw slightly.
He was fairly exhausted after completing over five hundred pushups in a row, and there were over four hours left until he would get off work.
Just how much does Cedrick plan on abusing me?
Cedrick smirked when he saw the nervous look in Craig’s eyes. “Spread your legs about shoulder width apart and hold a squat position for an hour!” he ordered coldly.
That’s it? I just have to hold a squat position?
“Yes, sir.”
Craig breathed a sigh of relief and quickly got into a squat position with perfect form.
He was sweating profusely from the hot air blowing at him, but he maintained his position and controlled his breathing while counting the time.
Cedrick simply stared at him for a while without saying a word. He then made his way to the bookshelf behind Craig.
As Craig didn’t dare turn around, he couldn’t see what Cedrick was doing. All he heard was the clomp of Cedrick’s military boots that grew distant before getting closer and closer.
The next thing Craig knew, Cedrick had returned to his desk with a huge stack of books.
Oh, no… I have a bad feeling about this…
Sure enough, Cedrick proceeded to arrange the books into two separate stacks and placed them on top of Craig’s thighs
In order to prevent the book from falling off, Craig had no choice but to lower his squat by a couple of inches.
When Cedrick saw that Craig was handling it rather well, he prepared another two stacks of books and walked up to the latter once again.
“Hold your arms out with the palms facing upward,” he ordered.
Craig complied with the order, and Cedrick placed a stack of books in each hand.
Despite how agonizing it was, Craig simply clenched his teeth and endured it in silence.
Cedrick made his way back to his desk and sipped on his iced coffee as he said, “If you can’t even last an hour, then you can forget about being the deputy director. Do not let any of the books fall off, or you’ll be suspended for a month.”
Craig held his breath and forced himself to endure the inhumane punishment, thinking of the bigger picture that awaited him.
Once I take over the Federal Bureau of Investigation, I’ll be sure to make Cedrick suffer!
As Cedrick glanced at the man from time to time while working on the computer, he noticed the vengeful
look in Craig’s eyes.
“You must hate me to the bone, huh?”
Craig tensed up slightly and retracted his gaze as he replied, “No, sir. You’re my superior, so I will obey your every command and give you my full cooperation.”
Cedrick let out a chuckle and decided not to call him out on his lie. “You’re a subordinate, so you should learn to behave like one. It’s not a good thing to be too full of yourself. You have a bright future ahead of you, but that is only if you learn to follow protocol.”
He’s indirectly asking me to give up on Jennifer and submit to Gwendolyn and Treyton…
With that in mind, Craig went along with it and replied. “You’re right, Mr. Jenson. I will follow protocol and refrain from disobeying the rules.”
Cedrick said nothing further as he retrieved a timer from his drawer and placed it in a spot where Craig could see it clearly.
As Craig lowered his gaze, he saw that the timer was counting down from sixty minutes.
Wait a minute… That means the past twenty minutes didn’t count! This guy sure knows how to torment someone!
As his arms were somewhat fatigued from doing five hundred pushups, they were trembling slightly from the extra weight of the books.
He quickly adjusted his breathing and clenched his teeth in an effort to maintain his position.
Craig would be suspended if even a single one of those books fell, and the mere whisper of such an incident would tarnish his reputation significantly. This, in turn, would have a detrimental effect on Newton Group’s stocks, triggering a rapid decline in their value.
Aware of the dire consequences that could follow, Craig absolutely could not allow that to happen.
A single hour felt like a year to him, but he kept his eyes on the timer.
His arms were getting extremely sore from the weight of the books, and his legs were starting to tremble uncontrollably. Craig was sweating so much that he looked as though he had just taken a shower. The puddle of sweat beneath him continued to expand in size as time went by.
As Cedrick continued working on his documents, the office got so quiet that one could clearly hear the sound of Craig’s sweat hitting the floor.
Seeing as there were only five minutes left on the timer. Craig forced himself to stay alert as he waited for it to hit zero.
However, the timer was stuck at two minutes and fifty–nine seconds.
Thinking that his eyes were deceiving him, he closed his eyes and blinked a few times, but the digits on the timer remained the same.
Huh? What’s going on here?
Cedrick was so focused on his work that he didn’t even look at Craig.
“Mr. Jenson?” Craig called out to him, but Cedrick ignored him completely and continued working on his
documents.
After holding on for a few more minutes, Craig was starting to feel mental fortitude waver.
“Mr. Jenson, the timer might be broken,” he said reluctantly.
“Broken, huh?” Cedrick arched an eyebrow as he continued without even looking at the timer, “The timer probably wasn’t doing a good job at keeping time, then. I’ll get a new one and start over.”
It has been so long since I last saw Cedrick torment someone. I can’t believe he’s still as ruthless as ever…
Craig’s arms and legs were trembling from fatigue, but he kept quiet regardless.
Noticing the look of resentment in his eyes, Cedrick asked with a sarcastic grin, “What’s the matter? You can’t take it anymore? In that case, go ahead and hand in your resignation. You can go back to the safety and comfort of your house after leaving the Federal Bureau of Investigation.”
He wants me to resign? Heh… Not going to happen!
“I am perfectly fine with your punishments, Mr. Jenson. I will reflect upon myself and work even harder to get stronger,” Craig replied.
“That’s good to hear.”
