Chapter 499 All Suspects
The news struck Cedrick and Nico like a bolt from the blue.
After sharing a look with each other, Cedrick quickly recomposed himself and said, “All right, I’ll go to the Newton residence to take a look at the situation. You carry on with your work.”
“Yes, Mr. Jenson.”
With another bow, Jasper left.
Once Jasper was gone, Nico moved closer to Cedrick and whispered, “Cedrick, Neville and Swain’s teams are still stationed five hundred meters away from the Newton residence. Do we still… arrest him?”
Cedrick calmly replied, “Something’s fishy about this, and we’re not going to rush headlong into this. Have them remain in their positions and await further orders. Take a copy of the evidence you’ve sorted out and bring along the arrest warrant. Pay attention to my actions and act accordingly.”
“Understood.”
The two men then left the Federal Bureau of Investigation and went into the car to head toward the Newton residence.
Sure enough, chaos had erupted at the Newton residence. The housekeepers and bodyguards were so busy that no one welcomed Cedrick and Nico when they walked in.
Sorrow had taken over the villa.
When Jasmine and Lucas found out about the tragic news, they rushed back to the family house as well. Nico grabbed one of the male housekeepers and asked, “Where’s Mr. Craig?”
“He’s on the top floor. He’s in a terrible mood after finding out what happened to Mrs. Newton.”
At that, Cedrick and Nico instantly went to the highest floor. The third room to the left was full of people.
Craig was holding onto Caylie’s body, which was already cold and stiff as he sat on the bed in a melancholic daze.
It was Cedrick’s first time seeing Craig with swollen eyes and a desolated expression.
Even Lucas and Jasmine’s eyes were red. The air in the room was heavy with grief.
Cedrick raked his gaze across the room before pulling the tearful butler Karl aside.
Karl quietly followed him until they reached the end of the corridor.
“Mr. Jenson, Mr. Craig has just lost his mother. He might not be able to welcome you properly in his grieving moment, so please forgive us for that.”
Cedrick sighed softly and said, “My condolences to the family for the loss of Mrs. Newton.”
“Thank you.”

Right then, Nico took a step forward and said, “Mister, please tell Mr. Jenson what happened in detail. Mr. Jenson will… bring justice for the Newton family.”
Karl sniffled and wiped his tears away with his sleeve as he mulled over what happened.
“The housekeeper was bringing breakfast to Mrs. Newton’s room, and that was when she found out that Mrs. Newton was gone. Mrs. Newton is a kind woman with loving children. She lived a happy life, so there’s no way she would have committed suicide.
Moreover, Mr. Jenson had checked her earlier. There aren’t any obvious external or fatal injuries on her. However, her lips are purple. Someone must have poisoned her. Mr. Jenson, please help Mr. Craig and Mrs. Newton with this!”
Cedrick drew his brows and went into a solemn silence.
Nico then remarked, “But the top floor of the Newton residence has always been locked. If Mrs. Newton didn’t end her own life, who else could have gotten into her room?”
Karl pondered about that. “Mrs. Newton doesn’t like going outside, so this will be easy to find out. There are only a few housekeepers who deliver food to her. I wonder if this originated from the kitchen.”
“Gather the housekeepers who deliver food to her, the cooks, and the grocery shoppers to the garden. I’m going to interrogate them all,” Cedrick instructed in a serious tone.
After tugging on his sleeve, he turned and went downstairs.
Karl obediently followed him.
Meanwhile, Nico stood by the doorway and stared at the situation in the room for a few more seconds. before sighing and going after Cedrick.
The interrogation at the garden lasted around ten minutes, but Cedrick found nothing amiss wit their expressions and explanations.
Turning to Nico, Cedrick said, “Get the Special Investigation Team to come here and check the entire Newton residence. Inform the forensic about this as well. We’ll be sending Mrs. Newton for an autopsy later.”
“Sure.”
Nico nodded and ran to a corner to make the call.
After Cedrick dispelled the initial suspicions of the housekeepers and cooks, he instructed them to resume their duties.
The garden soon returned to its earlier peacefulness. Seemingly recalling something, Karl gasped and said, “Mr. Jenson, I recalled something that is important.”
Cedrick turned around and uttered in a flat tone, “Speak.”
“Mr. Charles stole my key two nights ago and went to the highest floor during the party. I don’t know why he was there, but Mr. Craig punished him when he found out about it.”
Cedrick knitted his brows and narrowed his dark eyes. His tone was getting icier and icier as he said, “Do
tell me more about it.”
Karl continued, “Mr. Charles refused to admit that he stole the key. It was last afternoon when the bodyguard found the key to the top floor which was partially buried in the garden did they finally confirm that Mr. Charles has been to the highest floor. To be honest, Mr. Jenson, Mr. Charles once stole lab drugs. He doesn’t have a good relationship with Mr. Craig, so it’s likely that… he poisoned Mrs. Newton.”
Nico, who just wrapped up his calls, came back in time to hear the butler utter those words.
He promptly retaliated by saying, “Don’t you think you have double standards on both Charles and Craig? While Charles has a history of that, he was bailed by Mr. Asher. Now, it’s proven that he was not guilty. We have to do everything professionally and not accuse someone of doing something just because they have a history. Do you understand?”
Karl sheepishly lowered his head. “You’re right, Mr. Nico. I was just… suspicious. Mr. Jenson, please do look for evidence before you come to a conclusion.”
Despite Karl’s apologetic smile, Cedrick and Nico remained somber.
