Wooing My ex-wife (Gwendolyn and Maverick) novel Chapter 522

Chapter 522 Jealousy

Given Cedrick's personality, Gwendolyn could tell his statement had an underlying message.

She raised her hand and flicked his forehead in annoyance.

“Quit fooling around! I'm talking about work!”

Rubbing the tender spot on his forehead, Cedrick scowled before retorting, “I'm not fooling around. It's you who's reading too much between the lines, Gwenny.”

Gwendolyn gaped at him in disbelief.

Did he just imply that my thinking is impure?

Gwendolyn raised her hand and flicked Cedrick on the head once more. “That just shows what a bad influence you have on me. Your fault for talking dirty all the time.”

Cedrick was at a loss for words.

Realizing that anything he said at that moment could be used against him, he admitted defeat and lowered his head meekly, no longer arguing with Gwendolyn.

Pleased that Cedrick had stopped messing around, Gwendolyn leaned forward and pecked his lips. Just then, she remembered the fact that the open tender had been postponed by an extra thirty minutes. Curiosity filled her heart as she asked, “Neal is the crowned prince of Astoria and the rightful heir to the throne. He's someone with great power and authority. How could a single text from you cause a man of principles to bend the rules without any hint of hesitation? How did you do it? What did you tell him?”

Cedrick cocked a brow. “You really wanna know, Darling?”

Gwendolyn nodded.

A devilish grin appeared on his handsome face. “It's a secret.”

Gwendolyn fell silent at his reply.

Seeing that she was about to get angry, Cedrick quickly but genuinely changed the subject. “All right, Darling, go get ready. If we can't get to the open tender in the next half an hour, I'll just tell them that we're not going.”

Gwendolyn tossed him a side-eye and decided to settle work first. After freshening up in the bathroom, she put on a gown and applied a facial mask for five minutes before putting on her makeup.

Within half an hour, the two of them arrived at the open tender.

Only the bodyguards and Queena the assistant awaited them at the entrance. All of the guests were already seated inside the hall long ago.

At the sight of the two of them, Queena hurried over to greet them. “Mr. Jenson, Ms. Harris, you're finally here.”

Out of habit, she took Gwendolyn's hand and led her into the event hall. As they walked, she whispered, “Are you feeling better, Ms. Harris? Are you still in pain? Do you need medications?”

“Huh?” A confused look appeared on Gwendolyn's face. “What are you talking about?”

Queena thought Gwendolyn was embarrassed. She tutted as a look of understanding appeared on her face. “The citizens of Astoria are open-minded. We're all aware of the possible relations between a man and a woman. Besides, we're both women. There's no need to be shy, Ms. Harris.”

Gwendolyn was rendered speechless. What is she going on about?

Turning around, Gwendolyn shot Cedrick, who was behind her, a sharp glare.

What on earth did he tell Neal to postpone the open tender?

To her exasperation, Cedrick merely flashed her an innocent smile.

Gwendolyn narrowed her eyes coldly as a silent threat.

Pulling her closer, Queena lowered her voice and continued to gossip in Gwendolyn's ear. “Ms. Harris, I assume Mr. Jenson was wild, wasn't he? Otherwise, how would you have gotten injured?” She chuckled. “You're so blessed, Ms. Harris. I'm jealous!”

Gwendolyn remained silent.

Throughout the whole time, she did not give Queena any response. Tired of speaking to herself, Queena eventually dropped the subject. At that moment, they arrived at the entrance to the hall.

The private topic immediately came to a halt.

The hall was eerily silent with occasional whispers from the audience.

Under the skeptical gaze of the crowd, Queena led Gwendolyn and Cedrick to their seats in the front row.

After all of the guests had arrived, the open tender officially began. Any grumblings or complaints of the delay due to Gwendolyn and Cedrick being late were hushed.

Neal walked up to the stage and delivered the mandatory opening speech.

After a few short minutes, the audience erupted into applause as Neal gave a curt bow, signaling the end of the speech. As he stepped off the stage, the staff of the open tender entered the hall and approached the representatives of all the different corporations, collecting and labeling their flash drives, which contained the business proposal of their respective companies.

Everything was done in an effective and orderly manner.

The spacious hall was filled with guests. It took the staff ten whole minutes to finish collecting the flash drives from every representative.
