Cedrick's lips curled as he watched Charles' frustrated expression.
“It looks like you have no intention of thanking me. You only desire Gwenny's present,” he remarked.
Charles forced a smile, his expression masking his true feelings. “Oh, no, Mr. Jenson. Thank you very much! You seem to understand me perfectly. I had my eye on this watch for a while, but you beat me to it. Luckily, it still ended up in my possession in the end.”
Cedrick furrowed his brows. “That's great. Try it on. Let's see if it fits you.”
As Gwendolyn sweetly coaxed little Zendaya, she cast a quick glance at both men.
She couldn't help but find their rivalry amusing.
It had been a while since they had engaged in such competition, and she had no intention of intervening. Gathering the children, she made her way to the baby room on the fourth floor, accompanied by Zoey and Summer, leaving the living room to the three men.
As soon as Gwendolyn was out of sight, the smile on Cedrick's and Charles' faces vanished. They instinctively turned their backs to each other, each immersing themselves in their own tasks. Cedrick headed to the kitchen to prepare a meal while Charles took charge of tidying up the messy luggage on the floor.
Left alone in the living room, Nico stood there with a puzzled expression on his face. He scratched his head, trying to make sense of the sudden shift in the atmosphere.
Everything seemed so relaxed just a moment ago. Why did it become tense suddenly?
Caught in a dilemma, Nico weighed his options between assisting in the kitchen or joining Charles in packing up the luggage. After a brief moment of contemplation, he chose to lend a hand to Charles, not wanting to risk being seen as a nuisance by Cedrick for being unable to help in the kitchen.
The first meal they had after coming back home was a family dinner. It was a pleasant affair.
As a result of her injury, Gwendolyn delegated numerous projects and contract signings with Dovil Group to her capable subordinates. Taking the time to recuperate at home, she focused on her recovery while spending time with her children.
As usual, Cedrick juggled his time between Jenson Group and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Gradually, everyone's lives began to regain a sense of normalcy.
By the third day, the wound on Gwendolyn's arm had been bandaged for over a week. When changing the dressing this time, they noticed the wound had begun to scab over.
The wound on the back of her head had also healed considerably as it only bled a little. The swelling had subsided, and Gwendolyn was well on her way to a full recovery.
Thus, she returned to Harris Group and jumped back on board with the projects and collaborations involving Dovil Group.
She discreetly assigned her team to gather more information about Paul's Antea Group, particularly focusing on Annie's current role and the projects she was overseeing.
Her goal was to meddle in their affairs and fight for every project they were involved in.
After spending the morning in her office, Gwendolyn gradually lost her concentration and felt a growing sense of fatigue. She found it increasingly difficult to stay focused on her tasks.
Perhaps it was due to the lingering effects of her concussion, as she was still in the process of recovering from it.
Pushing her mouse aside, she shut her eyes and massaged her temples.
Suddenly, Gwendolyn felt a nerve in her brain tensing up, causing waves of pain to ripple through her head.
That's strange.
She instinctively massaged the back of her head, feeling a strange sense of irritation. Reaching for the landline, she summoned her assistant and spoke in a weary tone. “I'm feeling a bit tired, so I'll be resting in the room within my office. Unless it's something urgent, please ensure that no one disturbs me.”
“Got it, Ms. Harris,” the assistant replied and left her office.
As Gwendolyn continued massaging her head, she headed into the room to rest.
Back in the CEO's office of Jenson Group, Cedrick found himself staring absentmindedly at the scenery outside. Last night, he had mentioned the dress he bought in Astoria to Gwendolyn, and she had agreed to try it on tonight.
The anticipation of spending a wonderful and unforgettable night with her filled his thoughts, bringing a smile to his face.
Feeling dizzy with excitement, he couldn't wait to get off work.
As the sun began to dip below the horizon, he stole a glance at his watch. It was finally time to wrap up his work.
He pulled out his phone to call Gwendolyn, intending to pick her up from work.
The phone rang for a long time, but no one answered it.
Curious, he clicked on WhatsApp and sent her a few text messages.
A few minutes later, she still hadn't seen his messages.
If Gwendolyn were in a meeting, she would've rejected his call instead of letting her phone ring. Suspicion rose in his heart as he called Gwendolyn's assistant, who he had bribed previously.
When the call connected, he asked, “Where is Gwenny?”
“Ms. Harris is resting in her office. She left instructions that no one is to disturb her.”
Ms. Harris told me to keep everyone out. “Everyone” should refer to her employees and collaboration partners, but not Mr. Jenson.
