Wooing My ex-wife (Gwendolyn and Maverick) novel Chapter 538

Chapter 538 He Has Changed

Hearing her question, Cedrick calmly provided the reply he had prepared. “You were too tired last night and fell asleep in the resting room in your office. I went to Harris Group in search of you and brought you back home.”

Gwendolyn was surprised to hear that. “Did I sleep until now?”

Cedrick chuckled aloud and tapped her nose affectionately. “Yes, you lazy little piggy. You slept for over ten hours.”

No wonder I'm having a splitting headache. It turns out I've slept for that long.

She let out a playful giggle. “Well, in that case, I should definitely head to work at Harris Group. I could use the exercise of walking around. It's strange, though. I've slept for so long, but I don't feel hungry at all.”

Recognizing her determination, Cedrick didn't attempt to change her mind. “If you feel unwell, make sure to give me a call. Why don't you leave work half an hour early? I want to prepare something delicious for our first candlelight dinner upon our return to the country. It'll be a chance for us to have some quality time alone. I'll come to pick you up at work later.”

“Okay,” Gwendolyn agreed readily.

She didn't notice he was insinuating something else by saying “quality time alone.”

After her headache was relieved, Gwendolyn regained her energy and could get off the bed to wash herself up.

By the time she finished washing up and putting on makeup, her headache had mostly subsided.

Cedrick sat by the edge of the bed, observing her condition discreetly. “It's still early. I prepared some oatmeal with spinach. Why don't you have some before leaving?”

Gwendolyn shook her head in response. “I don't have any appetite at the moment, so I'm not hungry. Maybe I'll feel hungry later after I've walked for a while. I think I'll just grab something to eat outside.”

“Then I'll drive you to work.”

Cedrick got up and held her hand, intertwining his fingers with hers. Without hesitation, he led her out of the house.

As he willingly became her driver, Gwendolyn didn't resist, allowing him to drive the car.

That afternoon, Gwendolyn finally signed the contract with the person in charge from Dovil Group.

“Ms. Harris, here's to a successful collaboration.”

Gwendolyn shook the lady's hand warmly. “Likewise.”

It was evening by the time she finally concluded the contract signing. The room was bathed in the warm glow of the setting sun, which cast a golden hue across the space.

Gwendolyn's gaze wandered to the window, where she caught sight of the breathtaking sunset. At that moment, she remembered Cedrick's words from earlier in the day.

She glanced at the clock and realized there were thirty minutes till six.

I gave him my word, so I shouldn't disappoint him.

Gwendolyn left the remaining matters to her assistant. After packing up her stuff, she took the elevator to the garage.

She was about to call Cedrick when she spotted his car parked not far away.

To her surprise, she went to the car and saw Cedrick inside.

Upon spotting her, Cedrick got out of the car and went to the passenger side to open the door for her. He didn't forget to fasten her seatbelt after she entered the vehicle.

He was as thoughtful as ever.

When he bent down, Gwendolyn took the chance to give him a quick peck on the lips. “If there's an award for the best husband, you'll definitely win it.”

Cedrick lifted her chin and deepened the kiss.

“You'll win the best wife award, then.”

Gwendolyn's face lit up with a delighted grin, reflecting the contentment she felt in their harmonious married life.

On the way back to Harrick Villa, Gwendolyn stared at the constantly changing scenery outside the window and spaced out.

Cedrick would often turn around to observe her condition. He seemed relieved to see that her composure was intact.

As the car came to a halt at the red light, Gwendolyn's gaze was drawn to a young mother pushing a baby stroller along the sidewalk. In that moment, a subtle twinge of longing tugged at her heart.

“Ceddy, when our children grow up, let's take them for a stroll, each in their own stroller. It would be such a joyful experience.”

Cedrick agreed, “The children would love it.”

As Gwendolyn fixed her gaze on the young mother and her baby, she suddenly missed her own children.

“I just left Harrick Villa this afternoon, so it's only been a few hours since I last saw the babies, but I already miss them.”

Cedrick tensed up. “Darling, let's not talk about the kids today. We'll spend some quality time home alone and enjoy a candlelight dinner together, okay?”

Gwendolyn shot him a puzzled look. Deep down, she felt displeased but didn't say anything else.

Around ten minutes later, the car rolled to a stop at the Jenson residence's garage.

Cedrick parked the car and got out. He then went to the passenger side to open the door for her.

Fine, then.

Why doesn't he want me to leave the couch? This is strange.

Cedrick stopped cooking and let out a silent sigh. I can't believe she discovered that so soon. Indeed, Gwenny is as smart as usual.
