Wooing My ex-wife (Gwendolyn and Maverick) novel Chapter 603

Chapter 603 Black Sheep Get Beaten Up

Xander was on the verge of a mental breakdown. Things were fine in the afternoon, but his plan had abruptly gone to shambles.

With Raoul holding his collar and hissing threats, Xander shook like a leaf.

The injuries he had sustained on his face were still aching. If he received another beating, his weak body would give up. He might even suffer from broken ribs.

Yet, he could not do such a revolting thing in front of the others.

He would rather die than pretend to drop a soap bar in front of them.

When Raoul heard no response, he shook the latter and snapped, “You have three seconds. Choose.”

Xander shook his head. He wanted neither option. “I won't choose! I won't! Please let me go! I wasn't lying. I'll definitely drag that stupid Cedrick to hell and make sure he never crawls out of it!”

Raoul snorted before spitting on the floor. “You're a trust fund baby with no power or influence. You can't even win against me, but you're claiming to be able to defeat Cedrick? You've been ordering me around the entire afternoon. Do you really think of me as your plaything, huh?”

Raoul then threw Xander to the ground and ordered his lackeys to restrain the man, pinning him against the wall.

“Since you're refusing to choose, Mr. Xander, I'll do it for you. Let's have both options. We'll have you do the performance before giving you a beating.”

“No!” Xander screamed when he felt someone undoing his zipper.

Unable to stand what was going to happen next, he roared, “I'm the son of the Jenson family, a family that's one of the three wealthiest families in Salinsburgh! Although Cedrick has taken away my father's power, he was once a mighty man who commanded over others! If you do this to me, he's going to come after you!”

However, Raoul lifted his fist to punch Xander in the face, making stars form in the latter's vision.

“Who's going to care about you now that you've been thrown into jail? I've never been scared of anyone's threats. You will have to obey me!”

Xander's pants fell, and he was about to lose his mind.

The cheering of the others echoed in the cell, and everyone was watching the drama unfold, seemingly keen to watch the high and mighty privileged man be humiliated.

Xander wished for death, still thrashing to no avail.

Raoul's delighted laughs rang in his head. Just as he was about to be forced into the performance, an officer in the corridor knocked the steel bars with his baton.

Clang! Clang! Clang!

Immediately, the troublemakers quieted down. Even Raoul obediently returned to sit in a corner.

Xander was filled with rage. Without looking at the officer, he quickly pulled up his pants and his zipper.

There was fog in his glasses, and he was heaving and hiccupping. When he wiped his eyes with his sleeves, he realized he had burst into tears from the terror.

He had been so close to suffering total humiliation—a humiliation that he could never get rid of for the rest of his life.

The officer then landed his gaze on Xander. Although the troublemakers had retreated quickly, he could guess what had been happening inside.

As he knocked the steel bars with his baton again, he reminded, “Mr. Cedrick has said that Xander is still one of the Jensons despite his status as the black sheep of the family. If anyone dares to humiliate him in underhanded ways, he'll be making sure that they won't leave the Federal Bureau of Investigation alive.”

Raoul nodded and slapped a bright smile on his face. “Of course, of course. We won't mistreat Mr. Xander. Don't worry.”

At that, the officer hummed in satisfaction and turned to leave.

Just as he took two steps forward, something seemed to cross his mind, and he made his way back to the cell. He added, “But someone does need to teach Xander a lesson. Even though Mr. Cedrick has said that Xander is not to be humiliated, he never said anything about anyone not being allowed to beat him. Just know your limits, and don't hit him until he's severely injured.”

Raoul's eyes lit up. “Got it!”

Those words threw Xander into a pit of despair again.

Right as the officer left, he felt the unfriendly gazes coming from his cellmates. Raoul and his lackeys were eyeing him menacingly, excited that he was going to be their punching bag.

“Wait, no!”

Xander wrapped his arms around his head to shield himself.

Raoul beat him until almost every inch of his skin was covered in black and blue, and Xander begged and screamed the entire time.

He curled up into himself in a corner, looking like the epitome of misery. One of his teeth had fallen out. No matter how hard he tried to avoid their strikes, those punches would still somehow land on him, sending waves of agony through him.

After half an hour, Raoul decided to give him a break.

After all, Cedrick did say that Xander must not sustain any severe injuries and was not to be humiliated. The officers were clearly keeping a close eye on the cell, so the inmates had to keep their emotions in check.

The rain of punches finally halted, but Xander no longer bore the image of a polite affluent young man. His snot, tears, and blood were mixed together, and he looked like a mess.

A while ago, an officer had stopped by and chatted with them for a while. He had told them why Xander was locked up, and upon hearing the reason, the men in the cell became even more infuriated with him.

Raoul was the angriest. Though he was a part of the underworld, loyalty to friends and family mattered the most to him. Someone like Xander was nothing but a despicable rat to him.

The beating continued, but Xander was close to his limit. He was slumped on the ground, his hands hugging his head as he curled into himself. His vision was going dark.

At that, Raoul's lackey swiftly stopped Raoul. “Wagler, don't hit him anymore. If you keep this up, he's going to die. Let's make this slow and painful for him.”

Raoul stopped and spat at Xander several times.

Xander trembled. Despite his agony, he could not pass out.

Every second of being in the cell was hell. He could not imagine what life would be like when Cedrick transferred him to a high-security prison.

Before heading home, Gwendolyn drove to Mount Tranquil.

Even though Asher's bullet wound was not at a vital spot, he had only received it because of her. Regardless of everything, she had to visit him before he fully recovered.

When she reached Asher's house, Sienna was in the middle of unwrapping his bandages.

After knocking on the door, Gwendolyn took a seat on the small couch opposite the bed and watched as Sienna changed Asher's bandages.

Gwendolyn pursed her lips and stayed silent while Sienna focused fully on her job. Asher was equally quiet, though he would cast her a glance or two every once in a while.

Though the room was silent, it was a comfortable silence.

It only lasted until Sienna took off Asher's bandage and cried out, “What's with your wound, Hubby? Is there something wrong with the medication? Why isn't it healing?”

Gwendolyn's brows snapped together, and she hurried over to check his wound.

Asher tried to hide his wound from her as he consoled her, “It's nothing. It's just a minor injury.”

Gwendolyn grabbed his shoulders. “Don't move.”

It had been over a week, but the wound was still red and raw. In fact, it looked like it was developing an infection. Not only was it not healing, but it even looked worse than before.

Gwendolyn's frown deepened. “Why is this happening? Have you been changing your dressing and applying medication properly the past few days?”
