Chapter 605 Become Your Student
She sounded stern, but Asher could feel the underlying concern in her words, and it warmed his heart.
“Okay, I promise I won't neglect it. By the time of your next visit, my wound may be starting to scab over.”
Gwendolyn bobbed her head. “I hope so.”
Holding the first-aid kit, she spun on her heels, strode out of the bedroom, and headed downstairs to return it to Sienna.
After doing that, she received a text from Cedrick.
Cedrick had driven up Mount Tranquil and was waiting outside Asher's villa.
After bidding goodbye to Sienna, Gwendolyn walked out of the villa.
She got into the car and headed back to Harrick Villa with Cedrick.
Cedrick sensed her unhappiness as she seemed lost in thought with her head lowered. Unaware of the cause, he gently reached out and held her hand.
“Darling, a penny for your thoughts.”
Gwendolyn snapped back to reality and held his hand tightly. “It just occurred to me that Asher had changed a lot recently.”
Unlike his previous arrogant self, he had become sensitive, careful, and humbler.
He even shed tears in front of her today.
Cedrick's lips formed a soft smile as he kept stealing glances at Gwendolyn, who was sitting in the passenger seat. His gaze was gentle as he asked, “Gwen, are you contemplating whether or not to forgive him?”
Gwendolyn said nothing.
They had been together for a long time, so Cedrick knew her well and could guess what was bothering her.
He decided to mediate the situation for them.
“Darling, you are well aware that the true culprit here is Evelyn. She had been acting behind Asher's back and exploiting his power for her own ends. While Asher may have made a mistake, his error lies in giving her such influence in the first place.”
Gwendolyn lowered her gaze. She seemed unfazed but was actually listening to Cedrick's words seriously.
Cedrick gave her a look and realized that she wasn't entirely resistant to the idea. He continued, “You're upset and finding it hard to forgive him. That's because his actions have hurt you deeply. As someone who loves him, discovering that he sided with Evelyn feels like a betrayal, and forgiveness doesn't come easily. However, Asher has been remorseful for his actions. He has punished himself, inflicted harm upon himself, and carried the weight of regret in an effort to seek your forgiveness over the past year. He may not be skilled with words, which is why he struggled to face you and express his guilt. But when he took that bullet for you on the island, it was a powerful testament to his love for you. It showed that he chose you over Evelyn. I understand that he felt indebted to Evelyn's mother for saving his life, and he never anticipated that Evelyn would turn into the person she became. So—”
Before he could finish, Gwendolyn retracted her hand.
Cedrick was baffled as he could sense her displeasure.
“Darling?”
Gwendolyn turned away and crossed her arms arrogantly. She said darkly, “Mr. Jenson, you seem to understand the significance of someone who saved a life all too well. Remember, you insisted on divorcing me to marry Natasha, the one who saved your life.”
Cedrick tensed up and held his breath.
His complexion noticeably paled as he pulled the car over to the side of the road. With a pleading expression, he turned toward Gwendolyn and said cautiously, “Darling, we were discussing Asher, weren't we? Why did you suddenly bring up the past? Our baby is just a little over two months old and is still so young. You can't bring up past grievances and unsettle me...”
His voice trailed off, and his eyes grew redder as he looked at Gwendolyn.
Gwendolyn calmly responded, “I have never been in a situation where someone saved my life, so I can't fully comprehend how you men perceive it. Your understanding of Asher's actions made me think about the past. Does that count as bringing up past grievances?”
Cedrick immediately took responsibility for his mistake. “I apologize for mentioning about life saviors and unintentionally reminding you of the unhappy past. It was my fault, and I'm truly sorry. I'm willing to kneel on Lego pieces all night if that's what it takes for you to feel better.”
Listening to his aggrieved tone, Gwendolyn tried to hold back her laughter but failed to do so. In the end, the edges of her lips curved up.
Cedrick was sharp enough to notice the smile on her lips.
Oh, she's not really angry. She wants to prank me as I keep defending Asher.
His eyes sparkled as he inched nearer to plant a kiss on her cheek. “I know you love me and wouldn't want to see me in pain.”
Gwendolyn felt her stern facade cracking as she pushed Cedrick's head away. “Enough of that. Let's hurry up. I'm starving.”
“Got it.”
