“And what about all of you? Do you understand the impact this will have on the logistics department?”
Queenie swept her gaze over Whitney and the others, her tone quite unpleasant.
Whitney frowned and defended herself, “Ms. Zeller, we haven’t purchased any of these items. Why would we resort to such crude methods to take money we shouldn’t?”
Just then, the usually silent Xenia’s expression turned tense, appearing as if she wanted to say something but hesitated.
Lana immediately pulled her aside and said, “Do you know something? Rest assured. Just tell the truth. No one will blame you or dare to harm you.”
What she implied was that Xenia did not need to fear the person behind all these.
Whitney thought she must have been too tired the previous night, and that was why she made a mistake with the bill.
Just as she was about to say something, she heard Xenia say, “I’m sorry, Ms. Mellor. I can’t help you keep this a secret any longer. After struggling all night, it just feels too unbearable for me.”
Upon hearing those words, Whitney instantly turned her gaze back to her.
Xenia continued, “Ms. Mellor, when I accompanied you on the shopping trip yesterday, it was you who told me to cook the books. You even said that the company wouldn’t find out, and we could line our own pockets. All of this was done at your behest, and you told me not to publicize this matter. You warned me that if I dared to reveal even half a word. I would be fired. I’m sorry, Ms. Mellor. I just can’t get past this mental hurdle. I’m sorry.”
himney sneered and challenged her, “Do you have a conscience? Don’t you know what we bought when we went out yesterday? Why are you slandering me?”,
The day before, she was kind enough to show Xenia the ropes, but today, Xenia turned around and accused her falsely.
Whitney did not understand.
“Ms.Mellon, I know you have people backing you up, but I really can’t cover up for you anymore. I’m Corry.
Kenia kept apologizing, and her face displayed an expression of extreme remorse and fear. In an instant, Lana took advantage of the situation.
She voluntarily spoke up for Xenia.
“Don’t worry. There’s no need to be afraid. This company now belongs to the Newton family, not Whitney Whitney is really going too far. Does she really think she can act recklessly just because she has neone backing her up?”
Whitney remained silent, her gaze fixed on Xenia.
“I’m truly sorry, Ms. Mellor. I really am.”
Tears began to stream down Xena’s face, perfectly executing her act in a most impressive manner.
Lana and Sissi were still chattering away when Queenie suddenly slapped the table and loudly interrupted, “Enough! Do you think this is a marketplace? Is there no decorum left? I will send someone to investigate and find out the truth. Until there is concrete evidence, no one is allowed to speculate. Put aside the work you have in hand for now. Lana, take the others outside. Whitney, you stay behind.”
As her words fell. Lana left with the rest of them.
Once the office door was closed, Queenie furrowed her brows and asked softly. “Do you understand what’s going on?”
Whitney looked up. “Did Xenia slander me because someone bribed her?”
Although she had not been in the workforce for long, she was no fool and could see what was going on.
Queenie nodded and sighed, “Someone must be targeting you.”
Queenie had encountered such situations before.
She had seen far too many instances of office politics and scheming in her career.
“Go on. Be cautious of those around you. I’ll get to the bottom of this.”
Whimey pursed her lips and hesitated for a moment but still turned around and left.
When she returned to her own workstation, Lana was looking at her with a smug expression.
Looking around, everyone who made eye contact with Whitney lowered their heads. Everyone was putting up a false front in front of her. Behind her back, something else was happening.
She did not know how many of her enemies were among them.
