“What are you doing in the maternity ward? Is that…”

When Marshall saw birth control pills in the prescription, he paused with his face turning red.

It was too embarrassing for a bashful man like him.

But his behavior reminded Claudia of her childhood. He was also bashful at that time.

Seeing her giggling, he sighed and gave back the prescription to her, “Cliff was waiting for you upstairs.”

She nodded and went to the upper floor.

When Claudia was left, the director said to Marshall, “You and Mrs. Crawford are friends, right?”

Marshall lowered his head, “Yeah, we were friends, in childhood. What's the matter?”

“Well, she has some genetic problems. She was born with a weak constitution and hard to be pregnant. If she takes the pills frequently, she is going to suffer more,” the director shook his head.

Marshall was surprised. She was taking birth control pills all along?!

He clenched his fists.

Claudia got to the second floor and found the door of Cliff’s office was unlocked. She knocked on the door and walked in, and saw nobody in the room.

She thought he was checking the patients or operating a surgery, so she just sat on the chair and waited for him quietly.

An hour later, he still didn’t come back.

It was about 7 pm. She started to worry about the kid at home, but she couldn’t just leave without seeing Cliff. However, it was so boring that she checked the time frequently and started to chat with Kim on the phone.

In the end, she could no longer stand it and decided to leave. Out of courtesy, she sent a message to Cliff and told him she would meet him another day.

Once the message was sent, she heard the rang of a phone in the office.

Claudia was shocked. She looked around the office, trying to find the source of the sound. Suddenly, she heard the voice of a man, “Oops, I have been sleeping for too long.”

She turned to look at where the voice came from and then saw Cliff get up from a folding bed under his desk.

He made a yawn and rubbed his eyes lazily. Then, he saw Claudia standing close to him and waved his hand, “Hi!”

He was so calm and natural while Claudia was scared half to death. When she calmed down slowly, she started to realize something.

Was he sleeping in the office all along?

And she was waiting for him for over an hour!

Claudia stared at him faintly. He was packing everything up and then sat on his chair. When he noticed the expression of Claudia, he smiled at her embarrassingly, “Sorry about that. I have so many operations to go recently, so I just put a bed here and sleep in the office.”

What a casual man!

He took a look at the phone, not for reading her message, but for checking the time. When he noticed that it was 7 pm already, he jumped out of the seat rashly.

“Oh crap! I have an operation in ten minutes! I’m so sorry, Claudia…”

He finally awoke after an hour’s waiting, but now he was telling her he need to go for surgery?

So, she just spent so much time for nothing, right?
