“Lira, why do you need to resign?” Thomas, Lira’s boss was very disappointed when Lira gave him her resignation letter personally. “You are our top agent.” When Lira came to his company their sales income had doubled up. “How about this, I will double your pay. I will give you some time to think it over again. Will you?” One could easily tell that he didn’t want to let go of Lira.
“I’m sorry Thomas, my decision is already final.” Lira stood up for her resignation as she remembered her conversation with Damien over the phone.
“Lira, do this for me please,” Damien begged at her.
“Why me?” Lira asked confused.
“You can only be my eyes in Bill Sky’s office. When you’re going to be her assistant, you can also protect her. I’m sure she’s eyeing you to her assistant. So, when she calls you, please accept the job.” Arabella had mentioned Damien about her assistant. It would be a great relief if there’s someone who could report to him about Arabella’s daily movement.
“Damien,” Lira was puzzled as she had to decide abruptly.
“Please. I’ll owe you this one.” Damien’s tone was begging.
Hearing Damien's begging, Lira could not say no. She wanted to ease him and wanted to make him happy.
“Okay.” She answered with a cheerful tone.
“Yes!” Damien happily replied.
“What about John?” Thomas asked making Lira regain her senses. “Did he know about your resignation?” John and Lira were inseparable at work. Their partnership was outstanding and made a great contribution to the company. Their office even thought that they were a couple.
“I will tell him,” Lira answered. Admittedly, she felt sad as the people there were already part of her everyday life. “Rest assured, I will have a smooth turn-over. Thank you for everything, Thomas.” Lira bowed to show her gratitude.
Instead of replying Thomas nodded. He was out of words to convince her and his expression, he had lost some precious gem in his company.
Lira went out of Thoma’s office but she stopped after closing the door. John was standing outside. He seemed to wait there a long time for her.
His expression was already gloomy. “What happened? Did I hear it correctly? You are resigning?” John bombarded Lira with questions. He couldn’t believe Lira’s sudden decision as she never talked about it with him.
Lira strode closer to John trying to cheer up him a little bit.
“Yes, John.” She spoke. “I am resigning,” Lira confirmed. She felt a bit guilty about her sudden decision. John was always good to her. He never left her as he promised from the beginning. He was always there to assist her and cheer her up every time she was not in a good mood especially when she came to Capital Z with him. It was a sudden decision to erase the love she felt for Damien. It was very hard for her trying to forget the love she had and the people who had become her family. Her life went easy with John. She couldn’t imagine her life in Capital Z without him.
“Why?” John asked. His expression was uneasy.
“Arabella, she needs me to work for her in Sky Corporation,” Lira answered feeling sorry for her friend.
John was still felt gloomy as he was trying to understand Lira.
"Family comes first.” He nodded. “What about us?” John suddenly asked.
Lira was startled. She didn’t know what to say. John confessed to her but she didn’t take it seriously for she only had one person in her heart. Ever since it was always Damien.
“We remained friends, of course.” Lira put on a smile to shake away the awkwardness.
She could see John’s expression became gloomier.
“We can still hang out sometimes.” She said to lighten him up a bit.
Hearing her, John smiled hopefully. He nodded. “Promise?”
“Promise.” Lira hugged him.
Her first and last goodbye for John.
At Sky Corporation.
Arabella was petrified by the sight of a man who was sitting on her chair. She felt she had to say something quickly to cover her nervousness.
“Mr. Sky, what are you doing here? Do you need anything?” She put on her sweetest smile though her lips shivered.
Bill ran his fingers on the table repeatedly. His sharp eyes bore to hers.
Arabella stood still trying her best not to break down.
Bill stood up. Her heart pumped so fast. He strode closer to her.
His sharp stare was not leaving her. She felt that he was going to swallow her in whole.
“First day of work and you defy me.” Finally, he spoke glaring at her.
“Oh! I just took my lunch break boss.” She explained with cross fingers at her back.
“Don’t!” Bill’s eyes darkened as his voice got loud pointing at her.
Arabella rattled with his loud angry voice. She couldn’t react faster than she thought. Then she lowered her head feeling wronged.
Did he send someone to spy on her? She could not even hide anything from him.
He would not be Bill Sky if someone could easily deceive him. It seemed his game was a tough one. He had all eyes on her. He even kept her on his side.
That’s how he plays.
So very Bill Sky.
With a heavy expression, Bill walked around her. “You know what I hated the most?” He asked with sarcasm. Then he finally stopped in front to see her face.
“You have a beautiful face.” He complimented seriously. “Liars!” He answered his question with an indignant tone.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Sky. It won’t happy again. I will not leave again without your permission.” She swore in the air with her hand lifted to show her sincerity.
Bill studied her as his eyes dug deeply into hers.
“Prepare my lunch.” Bill suddenly ordered. Arabella secretly heaved a sigh of relief.
Is she just thinking too much?
Is this why he got so angry with her because he hadn’t eaten his lunch?
He was mad at her because he was hungry.
“Right away, Mr. Sky.” She quickly answered trying to escape from his drowning stare.
Bill went back to his office. He lost the track of time when he started working.
To make up her lies, Arabella prepared a healthy delicious lunch for him. He stopped his work and eat silently without giving her a stare. She felt relieved and forgiven seeing him enjoying his food.
She smiled secretly at her achievement for today.
Not everyone could escape her fate, especially when dealing with Bill Sky.
