Slowly, Gigi stood up, her face devoid of emotion. "I won't cause any more trouble. I'll go back with you."

Damian finally heaved a sigh of relief. He wasn't sure how she felt, but she agreed to come back, and that was good enough.

He nodded and tried to give her his coat, but she stopped him.

"Don't be kind to me," Gigi said, closing her eyes in pain. "If you want me to let go of you, you have to stop being nice, whether you mean to or not."

Damian understood and didn't push the coat on her.

They left the bar, and for the first time, Gigi sat in the back seat. She was quiet, looking out the window, lost in her thoughts.

Damian tried to talk to her. "We're going to Pearl's house. You need to be sensible—"

"I'm no longer a kid. You don't need to tell me what to do," Gigi coldly interrupted him.

Damian felt awkward and stopped talking.

Pearl and Richard were waiting at the door when they arrived.

Damian opened the car door for Gigi and said, "I'll bring your things to you later."

"Thank you." Her reply was polite but cold.

Damian chatted with Pearl for a bit. For some reason, he didn't really want to talk to her. He was more worried about Gigi, who was quiet and trying to keep to herself.
