Hushed whispers filled the surrounding area. Everyone wanted to know why Ariana had been invited to the Lodge Lamily’s gala. 

Inside the Royal Hotel, Emily knocked on the door of the second–floor break room. “Mr. Lodge, all the guests have arrived. We should head down now.” 

“Got it,” Brian replied and rubbed the bridge of his nose. The moment he closed his eyes, he could hear Ariana’s words from the day before echoing in his mind. 

If it weren’t for Belinda’s insistence on hosting this gala, he wouldn’t have wanted to see Ariana at all. 

Meanwhile, downstairs in the banquet hall, all eyes were on Ariana the moment she appeared. 

It wasn’t because of how extravagantly she was dressed, but rather the fact that she was now the sole heir of the Torrey family. Whoever married Ariana would stand to inherit everything she owned. 

If anything were to happen to Ariana, all of the Tortey family’s assets would go to her husband, so every man in attendance had their eyes locked on her.

It was obvious Belinda was putting on a show for the crowd She was making it clear to everyone in attendance that Ariana was the one the Lodge family had set their sights on. No one else should even think about making a 

move on her. 

Ariana simply smiled softly and said, “Mrs. Lodge Senior, Just met Mr. Lodge yesterday, and I got the impression that he’s not too eager to spend time with me.” 

Upstairs, Brian had just come down the stairs when he heard Ariana and Belinda’s conversation. His expression darkened once again when he recalled yesterday’s events, 

“Nonsense! I know my grandson better than anyone–he’s always liked you the most,” Belinda said. “The engagement was called off because he was throwing a tantrum. Young people make impulsive and reckless decisions, but this time, he’s here specifically to apologize to you.” 

Belinda smiled as she waved Brian over. 

Everyone in the room was watching, and it was clear to then that Brian had no feelings for Evelyn at all. The rumors about them having a child together were nothing but unfounded gossip. 

There was no truth to the idea that Brian saw Ariana as a stand–in for Evelyn because of her looks. After all, Evelyn’s boyfriend had always been someone else,
