The older men in the room suddenly felt that perhaps Chen Ao was right after all.
Perhaps it was true that Mr Chu was really too audacious for his own good.
But of course, they didn't dare to say any of this and just kept this thought to themselves.
But just because some of them didn't dare to say it out loud didn't mean nobody was willing to talk about it.
Sun Xiang laughed immediately when he heard Ye Fan's response.
"I knew it. You have no idea what powerful people you're facing, and you have no idea what sort of people you've provoked? It doesn't matter, I can tell you about them right now. Mayor Wu has brought me here today precisely to tell you about how powerful the Lu and Xur families are. I'm here to help you to see reality squarely in the eye."
Sun Xiang paused for a moment before he continued, "Before I retired from the army, I was with the Jiangbei military. I was fortunate enough to gain the favor of the Jiangbei commander and was his guard for ten years. But because of a severe injury, I had no choice but to retire from the military. But Mr Chu, do you know who the commander I followed for ten years was?”
Sun Xiang scoffed coldly, glanced at Ye Fan and declared, "It was Xur Shao-Hua's father, Xur Hai-Sheng!"
What?
Li Er and the rest shuddered at these words and their faces immediately paled.
"Are you...are you saying that Xur Shao-Hua's father is the...is the commander of the Jiangbei military?!” Li Er and Lei San were shocked beyond belief.
They knew that Xur Shao-Hua and Lu Ming-Feng came from powerful backgrounds, but they didn't expect their background to be this impressive.
A commander of a military zone had to be at least a major general, right?
"That's exactly what I'm saying," said Sun Xiang with a nod. "Commander Xu is a lieutenant general with a few hundred thousand troops at his command and protects a significant part of China."
Both Li Er and Lei San couldn't help but gasp at these numbers.
They suddenly realized that the Xur family of Yanjing was a lot more powerful than they had imagined.
Sun Xiang wasn't surprised by their reactions at all.
Anybody would be too afraid to even sleep once they heard that they had provoked a general with hundreds of thousands of soldiers at their command.
But to his surprise, Ye Fan didn't seem bothered by this at all.
Instead, he lifted his teacup so that his wife could refill it.
Sun Xiang frowned at this and continued to speak somewhat sarcastically, "But of course, Mr Chu is the King of Jiangdong and you might not care about a general. But what about the patriarch of the Xur family, Xur Jun-Lin? Old Master Xur is a very respectable man who used to be the deputy commander under one of our country's founding generals. In terms of seniority, only one person in all of China is senior to him."
"Most importantly, Old Master Xur was a military instructor back in the day. Our three best special troops, the Warring Wolves, the Flying Leopards and the Black Tigers were all trained up by Old Master Xur. Even though the old man has already retired, he's still holding an honorary position in these three troops. You could say that as long as he says the word, the thousands of soldiers in these troops will come here to execute you," said Sun Xiang in a stern voice. His low voice quietly echoed in the living room.
HULL..
A cold wind began to blow outside the house.
The billowing night wind rushed through the living room like the spirits of the dead.
Li Er and the other two men were already on the brink of despair from their fear, and even Qiu Mu-Cheng's arm started trembling while she poured them tea.
But Sun Xiang wasn't done talking.
"They have two generals in the family, Mr Chu. I'm not sure if you still think that you can continue drinking your tea so leisurely in a few days' time," said Sun Xiang with a light chuckle.
