Chapter 498 I Can’t Handle You
Ten years!
Indeed, a decade could change so much. It was enough time to achieve one’s goals and even transform oneself.
And he…!
Wexford was the turning point.
When Irwin realized how desperately he wanted to keep certain things from her, he knew… he had completely fallen.
In truth, he had sensed something before. But back then, he had refused to acknowledge it, willing to do anything to achieve his goals.
“Did you have something to do with Kayla’s illness?” Natalie asked, her voice icy, not softening even a bit despite Irwin’s tone.
“Nat!” Irwin exclaimed.
“The incident with Luna and Kayla… It was also part of your plan, right?”
Was it?
The answer was yes!
He knew exactly what disgusted her. So, he understood what could damage her relationship with Cedric.
He knew what to do so that their relationship would be completely shattered.
He had achieved his goal!
Natalie was a an intelligent woman. Even if the matter had been unrelated to Irwin, she would inevitably link it to him after his decade of manipulation.
“Believe it or not, that had nothing to do with me. I achieved my objectives then and had no reason to go further,” Irwin stated.
Natalie was silent, and her sharp gaze softened slightly upon hearing his response.
As Irwin knew, Luna was what mattered most to her. If she discovered his machinations had harmed Luna, her reaction toward Irwin would be more catastrophic than with Cedric.
“It’s best if it’s as you say,” Natalie replied coldly.

“Kayla has been discharged from the hospital,” Irwin added.
Natalie was silent as her gaze out the window became colder.
“Her days by your side have been good, right?”
It had been a long time of plotting…!
Irwin was silent, slightly taken aback.
From Natalie’s and Cedric’s interactions, it was evident how much she detested Kayla. After all, being Isabella’s daughter, it was a wonder Natalie showed any patience toward her at all.
Irwin took a deep breath. “I’ve never met that child.”
“You’ve never met her?” Natalie repeated..
“She’s not that important to me,” he replied.
Natalie fell silent.
Irwin was indeed a complex man. Recognizing Natalie’s aversion to Kayla, he had purposefully distanced himself from the child.
While Kayla lived under his protection, the circumstances differed greatly from Cedric’s involvement.
Yet, Irwin’s explanation did little to ease Natalie’s mood.
