Chapter 268 Keep Your Distance from Him
As the notion traversed Jordan’s thoughts, a chill flickered in his gaze, settling into a steely, unyielding stare fixed upon Lucius. Just as he parted his lips to speak, a clear and melodious voice interceded, disrupting the moment.
Milly stood beside Jordan, fully aware of his feelings. Detecting his unease as he scowled, she understood he was about to decline.
Just like in the previous life!
His face reflected the portrayal in the story by the inexperienced writer. A scowl, then a frosty sneer, and eventually a hint of chilling coldness in his gaze…
Although aware of Jordan’s kindness and sincere care for her, Milly was reluctant to endure a day in the “dark room“.
Therefore, before Jordan could dismiss her coldly, she intervened, “Okay, Lucius, you were recently inquiring if we could be friends, right? I formally accept now. We can indeed be friends.”
Lucius shifted his gaze to Milly, asserting firmly, “Not just friends!”
Milly was taken aback. What does he mean?
“The only friend!” He emphasised the word “only” to ensure it resonated clearly with her.
A slight smile crept onto Milly’s lips. She had never encountered someone so obstinate and persistent. Is there a substantial distinction between the only friend and just a friend?
Despite her uncertainty, she nodded in agreement, saying, “Alright.”
Upon hearing her consent, the solemn expression on Lucius‘ face vanished. instantly, replaced by a touch of happiness evident in the now relaxed corners of his lips.
This change was a sharp/departure from the earlier atmosphere of tension.
Jordan was surprised by Milly’s agreement, a hint of concern flickering across his serious expression. “Milly!”

Nevertheless, Milly comforted him with a gentle pat on his hand and a smile, saying, “Don’t worry, Jordan, I’m aware of my decision…”
Unexpectedly, before she could finish her sentence, Jordan sharply scolded her.
“What are you aware of? Do you grasp the nature of his character? Aligning yourself with someone like him could be riskier than you think. I’m fully informed about the Burnetts‘ current circumstances, and if I believe there won’t be any problems, then there won’t be!
“Nevertheless, keep your distance from him in the future.”
Milly foresaw Jordan’s momentary anger at her choice, but she hadn’t anticipated him lashing out in front of Lucius.
Milly waited silently for Jordan to finish scolding before responding, “Jordan, I appreciate your concerns, but you need to understand that I am not Stephanie. I can take care of myself. Although I haven’t formally joined the Burnett Group, I am well–informed about the company situation. As a member of the Burnetts, it is both my responsibility and capability to support our family.
“Furthermore, Lucius only asked for friendship, nothing beyond that. Having an extra friend means having another perspective to consider. Why not take advantage of the opportunity?”
Milly thought to herself, quietly applauding her decision.
Impressive! I had become adept at convincing others.
With her recent concentration on college entrance exams, acting responsibilities, and now being back at college, she had been occupied. How could she realistically stay informed about the Burnett Group’s current situation? It was all a facade.
However Jordan had complete trust in her, and upon hearing her words, his eyest were filled with heartache and regret. He regretted that the Burnett Group hadn’t flourished under his leadership and that in the end, it would rely on his sister to resolve matters. What was the difference between this and taking advantage of someone else’s kindness?
She had no desire to do so, but this was the course the story took. What options did I have? Pushing through against the odds seemed futile.
