She couldn't shake off the odd look that Emily had given Jack earlier. Her gaze had been strangely intense.

Jack chose his words carefully when he told Bella the story of how Emily had collided with Amelia and the scuffle that transpired after. Not wanting Bella to have any misunderstandings or suspicions, Jack omitted Amelia's role in the incident and replaced her identity with another woman who had no connection to him.

However, Bella was exceptionally bright. She wasn't one to trust Jack's words easily. "Are you telling me the truth?" she asked.
