A Life Debt Repaid novel (John and Cordy) novel Chapter 375

Chapter 375

Patrick went silent for a while.

Cordy would rather not explain herself, but seeing that Patrick had traveled all the way here, she should at least give him a reason to leave. "I understand your reasoning, and there’s definitely a lot in it for me.

However, I refuse to take part in this grudge match, just as I lack the capacity for it."

"Your families stand at a level far above my reach or recognition, and I don't have that much ambition because all I want is a peaceful life.

Naturally, you can argue that there’s no peace to be had in my life right now, and I’ll admit as much-but at the very least, I wouldn't go out of my way to allow that peace to slip through my grasp by my own doing."

Patrick's Adam's apple rolled, and he suddenly asked, "Because of your son?"

The change in Cordy’s expression was all too obvious.

"It's not that hard to find out," Patrick added bluntly.

Cordy glared at him. "If that's the type of person you really are, Mr. Stuart, I don't believe there’s a need to continue this discussion—"

"I'm not despicable enough to threaten you with your child," Patrick quickly explained. "I certainly know about the saying that mothers are strong. But don't you think you owe your own son the same peace you crave?"

"That's my business," Cordy replied coolly. "If you really aren't going to threaten me as you say, don't even think about it."

"Alright," Patrick nodded, his tone suddenly changing. "But can I just ask... Do you really not want to take your own destiny upon your own hands? Are you going to keep bearing the humiliation of everything Jessica Staurt

threw at you? Or perhaps, you were pinning your hopes on John Levine? He's a businessman. Even if I won't deny that he has feelings for you, there's rarely anyone who has such resolve and would stand with one choice to the end, especially when they lose more than what they gain.’

"Well, you're a businessman too, Mr. Stuart," Cordy scoffed. "Moreover, we've just met. What makes you think I'd trust you enough to work with you? Common goals? What if one day we share nothing in common?

Policies change, and you are a Stuart at the end of the day. In the case where your family kisses and makes up, won't I just be disposed of as an expendable asset?"
