The ballroom was rather silent after Jessica had spoken, with no one raising their paddle.
Noel had at first been upset since Cordy’s speech left her humiliated, but seeing this felt cathartic.
It was Cordy’s own fault for playing up her virtue—it would be far more humiliating as a woman if no one made a bid for you!
Naturally, as Noel was sneering inwardly, Jessica also felt delighted.
After all, she sent instructions beforehand that no one was to bid for Cordy, just to humiliate Cordy.
Thus, Jessica was actually surprised that Cordy seemed to have read her mind and gave such a grandiose speech beforehand, so that Cordy wouldn’t look so bad even if no one auctioned for her in the end.
Be that as it may, Cordy would still be humiliated regardless—and even more so once word of this gets out.
"Is no one bidding?" Jessica exclaimed in surprise, appearing caught in disbelief.
On the other hand, Cordy remained composed—as she had been from the start.
It was as if even the world would end, she would still take it in stride.
"Well, since there's no bidders, let's not affect the upcoming auctions…" Jessica said, turning towards Cordy with an apologetic, awkward look. "Sorry, Cordy. Could you please leave the stage?"
Cordy nodded, as calm as she had been as she came onstage.
But just as she lifted her skirt to leave…
"500 grand!"
A deep, magnetic voice suddenly resounded in the ballroom, and everyone turned in that direction to see that John had raised his auction paddle.
He even started the bid at five times the price for Noel!
Noel, who was just reveling in glee, was left dumbstruck as she stared at John in disbelief.
He was already with Jessica, yet he was still bidding for Cordy, and in front of so many people? Did he even consider Jessica's feelings?!
In fact, Jessisca actually reacted to John's bid, despite her immaculate ability in keeping up appearances.
