Chapter 89
Cordy glanced at John.
She had much to say, but was reluctant to say it in front of Richard.
As for Richard, he did not dare to ask more questions under John’s watchful eye.
Still, Cordy stayed there for lunch and coaxed Richard into taking a nap before leaving.
John rode home with her at the backseat, with Hendy driving.
The car was quiet until Cordy spoke. “John.”
“Yeah.” He turned toward her.
“I may have a blemished past,” she said. “But I’m not a loose woman either.”
John said nothing, but he was obviously taken aback.
“I understand that you’re successful and women would love you, even throw themselves at you. I also wouldn’t deny that anyone likes beautiful things, and neither you nor her might be at fault too -but it’s against my principles. I’ll be fine if we all stay as friends, but I won’t try to go further for anything else.”
The car just happened to stop below Cordy’s apartment block just then and she opened the door, striding away right then and leaving John looking utterly bamboozled.
He then turned toward Hendy. “What was she talking about?”
Hendy was quiet for a moment as he tensed up-he was too old to understand the young ‘uns troubles in love.
