Chapter 25
Alena
My anger disappeared. My mind went blank.
The woman in those pictures were his wife but she was gone.
I was upset because he lied to me, but I didn’t realize I was supposed to ask instead of continuing to hurt him. He went through a lot when he lost his wife and I saw how heartbroken he looked when he grabbed those pictures.
Regret filled within me. I didn’t have to throw the album or the pictures.
I immediately made my way towards him, slowly picking up the pictures from the ground-some had fallen. He sat quietly in his spot before placing the ring back on the bed.
Why did I react that way? Why did I think of my own feelings instead of his, too?
“I’m sorry… Matteo. I should’ve asked,” I muttered under my breath.
We were sitting next to each other and when I looked into his eyes, they were red and watery, but he managed to lift his lips into a smile. He cleared his throat before trying to dry his eyes by shaking his head.
“You didn’t know. How could I blame you?”
That was immature of me.”
“No, Alena. It’s fine,”
I grabbed both of his hands, “What happened?”
“Car crash.”
“I’m so sorry,”
“She had a café downtown and that night, she had a lot of customers. So, she closed a little bit late. I was at work when she called me to come pick her up because she said she didn’t want to drive back. She said she was tired.” Matteo continued to talk, zoning out.
“You don’t have to tell me …”
“I want you to know. You deserve to know.”
“Matteo …”
“She fell asleep. Microsleep. And she was gone,” a tear slipped his eye as he quickly wiped it away.
I wrapped my arms around his neck before pulling him in for a hug. He responded back by wrapping his arms around my waist. It didn’t take me long to realize he was crying as I heard the sobs. He was trying his hardest not to shed a tear, but he failed miserably, and I grew weaker at the sight of him.
My eyebrows furrowed, trying to avoid my own tears from falling.
“I regret it every single day, Alena. I should’ve drove her home and if I did, she was still going to be here with me.”
He was broken. In a lot of more ways than one.
It was the kind of broken where nobody could fix it.

Then, I remembered back when he hesitated on helping me. He promised me a loveless marriage because he wasn’t ready to fall in love. He loved his wife with his whole heart, and he wasn’t anywhere near letting go.
How could he easily fall for me?
He didn’t let me in his room because he had pictures of her. It was his life; she was his life and he wanted to keep that part private. She was always going to be an important part of him regardless of whatever he went through.
I had my heartbroken because my ex-boyfriend cheated on me. He showed me his true colors when he did it intentionally, but Matteo went through something different. He had to go through the lonely nights, the painful heartache and overcoming the grief.
“It’s okay. You’re okay.” I whispered, rubbing his back.
A few minutes had passed when he pulled away and I could see the crying had made him feel slightly relieved.
“I’m sorry I kept it away from you. I didn’t know how to tell you
“I understand. It’s not your fault,”
“But Alena, you had every right to know. You had every right to be upset with me because if I were in your place and I found pictures of you with another man, it would’ve been a different story. I might’ve tracked him down.”
“I’m really, really, sorry for your loss. It must be hard for you,”
He cleared his throat, “It was five years ago. She’s in a better place now.”
I kept quiet, afraid if I might say something wrong. I had never been in his situation, so I never understood it truly. If I were ever in his spot, I was bound to break and lose everything. He was strong enough to keep calm.
“What’s wrong, Alena?” He asked, caressing the side of my face.
I shook my head, “I’m just amazed at how strong you are.”
Before he could say anything, I leaned in to kiss his lips. My hands were cupping onto his face to gain full control. The way he kissed me back gave me the amount of satisfaction I needed because he didn’t push me away—I missed him.
I hated treating him the way I did.
As I pulled away, I saw him smiled.
“I missed you. I missed everything about you.” He breathed, kissing my cheek.
Then, he went down to kiss my neck. My body began heating up immediately as I let the pleasure consume me but when I opened my eyes, I saw the photo albums and the rings. It felt wrong to be in his embrace when the woman he ever loved was right there.
He stopped moving when he noticed my body went rigid.
“We should keep them away first,” He added.
I nodded, “We should. It feels weird,”
I watched him as he picked up the album and the pictures before putting them away in the drawer. Then, he went back for the wedding bands and the engagement ring to put them along with the album.
When the bed was clear of those memories, he went to stand in front of me while I was sitting on the edge of the bed. He was staring down into my eyes as he cupped my face, slowly caressing my skin with his fingers.
I closed my eyes, loving the warmth he was radiating.
I began to sit on my knees which gained me a few inches taller before running my hand down his zipper, earning myself a
smirk from him.
“This is the Alena I know.” He muttered, letting me take control,
“What is she like?”
“Feisty, confident and s***.”
Once I felt his full length, I ran my hand up and down without looking away from his eyes. He was enjoying the pleasure as he continued to kiss me, slowly pushing me so I was laying on my back with him on top of me.
Our lips never stopped moving because he was kissing me too intensely.
I moaned when he went down to grab both of my hands, pushing them above my head. Then, he grinded on my thigh, letting me feel him wet and warm.
I was laying in nothing but his oversized shirt, obviously with no underwear. He undressed me last night while I was passed out cold. He didn’t do anything against my will, and I respected that-he respected me as his wife.
One of his hands went down to lift my shirt, letting my lower body be exposed.
My legs were spread wide as he slowly and passionately thrusted inside me. Our mouths were parting together before we continued to kiss, moans and grunts mixing.
“Yes, baby. Take all of me like you always do,” he whispered in my ear. “Your p***y knows it belongs to me.”
If we were in this situation months ago, I was probably going to call myself crazy but now, I was enjoying it too much. Every time he touched me, my knees were growing weak. He knew my sensitive spots and he made me begged for them.
“Matteo …”
“Mm, keep spreading your legs for me.”
My eyes closed as my moans filled the room, feeling his thrusts deep and slow.
This wasn’t our usual pace. He was usually hard and deep but instead of the same movement, he was taking his time. He was kissing every part of my skin as he threw my shirt on the floor.
We were skin to skin. We felt like one.
Instead of always giving into our lusts, we were focusing onto our feelings. Matteo was never the man I thought I ended up with, but he proved me wrong. We were made for each other whether we knew it or not. If we were written to meet in our

I felt as if I knew this man in a different lifetime.
He stood by me. He protected me. He showed me he could care.
My legs were wrapped around his waist, making me feel him deeper. It was a weird feeling to have him spread me as wide, but I knew I wanted everything of him. There wasn’t an inch left for me to ignore. I wanted it all.
My body ached for his.
I never felt this way with anyone before.
O
“Do you think we should have a baby?” I asked, my voice low as I looked into his eyes.
Chapter 25
He raised an eyebrow, slightly confused as he slowed his movement. Both of his hands were beside my head, moving my hair away from my face.
“I mean… I just think we would cute babies.” I added, clearing my throat.
My eyebrows furrowed because I knew I had ruined the moment. We were making love and suddenly, I had dropped the ‘baby bomb’ on him. Babies were a conversation for another day another week, another month or even another year.
I wasn’t supposed to drop it like that.
But something in me made me say those words. Was I truly ready to become a mother? I knew I wasn’t supposed to rush things, we had more years together, but I was thirty and he was turning thirty-five in a couple of days.
I didn’t want to be old and grumpy when raising my children.
“Is it going to be my birthday present?”
My cheeks heated up as I smiled. “I don’t know. Do you want it to be? Even though it can’t happen that quick.”
“I’d like nothing more than to have babies with you,” he leaned in to kiss my lips before thrusting in again. It sent shivers down my spine when he began to quicken his pace, letting our bodies rock.
I moaned, gripping hard onto his arm.
His thrusts were deep, and I was beginning to see stars.
want you to come with me,” I breathed.
“Mm.”
Within seconds, we were both reaching for our highs as we came together. He twitched inside me, and I felt something warm. We were one, for so many times and I wanted nothing more than to admit I belonged fully to him.
He kissed my cheeks, smiling down at me.
“Do
you still want to have a baby with me?” He asked.
“Do you think I was going to change my mind?”
He chuckled, lying beside me. We were both naked but before this, we were already exhausted and went straight to sleep. This time it was different, we were initiating a conversation.
An important conversation.
“Let’s have a baby.”
I turned to look at him, seeing his eyes were focusing on the ceiling as his lips curved up into a smile. His smile was perfect, and I knew it was genuine-he showed it on his face whenever he meant every single word.
“Really?”
“Really. Let’s have a baby,” he continued to trail kisses on my face, causing me to giggle.
My heart felt at ease, and I knew it was the right decision. We were both very busy with our careers, but a baby wasn’t going to hold us back. It was going to strengthen our relationship.
“She’s going to look just like her beautiful mummy,” he added before caressing my face, running his finger on my lips. “Beautiful green eyes. Cute little nose. Soft pink lips.”
