Chapter 56: OBSESSION

The first time Khaos saw Zuri was when she was twelve. It was the first time her father took her to the palace.

There was nothing about her that caught his attention, since what could a twelve year old girl do to get his attention?

The second time was when he saw her in Lumicen city. Apparently, she was there with her father for a business deal. They went there incognito, but he recognized her as Alpha Roland's daughter.

Her presence there was questionable at best because someone like Alpha Roland wouldn't bring his daughter over any of his three sons for a business trip, since it didn't look like they were there for a vacation.

The third time was when she was sixteen.

That night, Bryden went to kill Elder Jason. The beta lost it when he learned that his destined mate had been abused by him.

It was winter, one of the coldest nights and eighteen year old Zuri was hugging herself under a maple tree, rocking herself back and forth wearing a thin dress that didn't do much to ward off the coldness.

He wondered what that girl was doing there, but obviously, stopping his beta took priority before he could go on a killing spree and cause further trouble.

However, the image of Zuri that night kept coming back to him when he spent his time in the Three Deadly Ways. The young girl, who was hugging herself. Defenseless and vulnerable. He felt the urge to go back and pat her head. She looked like a lost puppy.

And now that same girl was stretching her legs on the couch, as she found a comfortable position to fall asleep, despite the fact that they were going to attend her father and mate's execution.

They would be hung in the public, along with all the traitors that had conspired with them. Some elders from Dacre's court were among them too. That was why his court was in an uproar right now.

Not only that, they caught more than a thousand warriors from the Great Lunar kingdom. They beheaded them all and sent their heads back to their kingdom. Khaos would expect retaliation from the Great Lunar kingdom for this.

But, everything was in line with his predictions and plans; Zuri was the only surprising element.

"Do you hate your father and mate so much? You look very relaxed even when you know they are going to meet their demise soon."

Zuri put her head on the pillow and cradled Shadow, which snuggled to her.

"No. I used to hate them, but not anymore." Zuri scratched the back of Shadow's ear. "They don't deserve my hatred." A smile bloomed on her lips. "Instead of being sad, I should celebrate. I am finally free."

"How so?" Khaos found it interesting to know what was on her mind.

"When I mated with Xaden, I thought I would finally be free of my father's control, but as it turned out, he planted spies in the Blackthorne pack and I was still within his clutches. I thought my life would change for the better after getting together with Xaden, but he was a piece of shit. He left me for a month right after he marked me."
