A Night To Remember novel (Diane and Norman) novel Chapter 50

Chapter 50 You Actually Have Feelings for Her, Right?

Diane was sure of it—she’d made sure that the cup was in Queenie’s hand before she let go of it.

However, the cup had toppled over nonetheless, spilling the piping hot milk all over the sheets.

Meanwhile, Queenie’s hand seemed to be scalded by the heat as well, for she clutched her hand as her face scrunched up in a grimace.

“What’s with you? Why can’t you even hold a cup properly?”

Christopher’s sudden complaint came as a shock to Diane, and she shuddered slightly. She turned toward him in an instant, but his attention was already on Queenie as he stood up and swiftly tore away the blanket which was now drenched in milk.

“How’s your hand? Does it hurt?”

“I’m fine.”

Queenie shook her head and said, “It’s nothing—it’s just a little splash. It’s not Diane’s fault.”

Christopher held her hand and carefully observed the scalded areas before turning back to Diane.

His expression was cold, and she wanted nothing more than to look away.

“I’ll get the doctor to take a look at Miss Hayworth’s injury,” said Diane hastily. Then, she turned around and left the ward in a hurry without waiting for their response.

After walking for quite a distance, she finally started to calm down from her nervousness. She took a deep breath and headed to the doctor’s office when someone called out from behind—the voice was cold and demanding.

“Stop right there.”

She had always been an independent person, so she didn't feel the need to comply with anyone’s command.

However, that particular voice had the power to make her instinctively stop short in her tracks.

Diane didn’t turn around, but she could feel his intimidating presence approaching.

“Why did you spill the milk earlier?”

Christopher’s mind seemed to be set on the matter; he came up to her and questioned her directly.

However, judging from the way he had asked… Does he think that I did it on purpose?

“Mr. Wayne.”

Diane finally looked behind. She raised her head and stared straight at Christopher’s unblinking gaze without the intention to avoid the subject. At that moment, her almond eyes were firm and filled with determination.

“If I was planning to spill it on purpose, firstly—I wouldn’t have done it right under your nose. Secondly, I would have splashed it directly onto her face, not all over the blanket where it wouldn’t injure her at all.”

Her breaths were slightly rushed and she was trying her best to hide the fact that she was nervous. Nevertheless, the flush that crept up her face as she spoke had completely betrayed her intentions.

Christopher lowered his gaze and caught the faint redness on her face. Soon enough, his eyes darkened considerably with realization.

“You’re saying it was an accident, right? If that’s the case, why are you nervous? Why are you panicking?”

He caught her wrist and gripped it tight before he pulled her close with a yank, stunning Diane briefly. Meanwhile, his breaths became harsher as he narrowed the distance between them.

“W-What’s there to panic about? Please don’t jump to conclusions, Mr. Wayne.”

“Me? Jumping to conclusions? If it was an accident and you’re not panicking, then what is it? Are you mentally retarded? Is that why you can’t even hold a cup properly?”

The vicious insults which she was all too familiar with escaped his lips. Diane was rendered speechless by his snappy arguments, and she couldn’t help but glare at him sharply.

“You’re the one who’s mentally retarded. Whatever it is, you’re wrong. Let me go—I’ll go and get a doctor. After all, I can’t afford to have your baby girl hurt her hand, so please let me go, Mr. Wayne.”

Diane flung away his hand and bolted like she was running for her life.
