A Pigeon Pair: Sweetheart, Let's Get Married novel Chapter 56

Everly froze and looked at Maverick in surprise.

Was he saying this because of her?

Although these people's words made her a little angry, she didn't expect that he would put her in front.

Chace was also dumbfounded for a moment.

Maverick had a strong aura. Even if they were just rough fellows, they could still feel it.

Even so, he was just obeying orders from Mr. Declan.

He should give him a lesson.

No matter how great Lamont Group was in City C, in Weirdale, they should be obedient! Previously, when they first came to Weirdale, they aimed at the land in the north, where they planned to build a resort.

While Chace was the local know-it-all. Most often, social connections were necessary when it came to doing business.

Plus he had the Rice family behind him. In no way could Maverick get what he wanted easily.

Someone wanted to see him stumble.

He should learn that when it came to doing business, there was an order. Outsides had to show respect to the locals.

In fact, Maverick was like the airborne force to the entire domestic business community for the past two years. He had made great achievements abroad, but as for the old fogeys in the domestic business, no one would believe that his ways of doing business abroad would also work in the domestic.

"Mr. Maverick, since you know that connections are important in business, undoubtedly you understand that all kinds of relationships are intricate. You do others a favor today, they will pay you back in the future."

Chace remained unconscious about the situation and thought that he was in control of everything. He kept being arrogant when he spoke, "My fellows are ineloquent. You can just ignore them. And she's right beside you safe and sound, right? You are not going to be as stupid as letting the girl ruin the business, aren't you?"

With these words, he was taunting Maverick blatantly.

Everly felt very uncomfortable listening to these.

However, neither Maverick's face changed nor did he say anything at the moment.

He held the rest half of the cigarette between his fingers and smoked most of it quietly. For the remaining one-third, he left it unfinished, as he always did.

Then he directly crushed it and threw it on the bone plate beside him.

He didn't even take the slightest glance at Chace.

The others at the table were fidgeting since they thought that Maverick was way too putting on airs.

Maverick kept pinching Everly's hand gently, to which he enjoyed very much obviously. She looked so obedient and soft that he couldn't take his eyes off of her.

The girl was slightly shocked.

The way he looked at her was very possessive.

What the hell was he doing?

Everly knew that he wouldn't allow these people to act like that without a cost, even at the very least.

After another silence of fewer than two minutes, someone finally lost their patience.

As Maverick knew that they arranged this dinner for a purpose, he still didn't hold back a little and fired on full power. Someone standing next to Chace, which probably had a good relationship with him, whispered into his ear all of a sudden.

Chace frowned. He had the body of a man and the mind of a child.

He seemed to agree with what the man said.

"Maverick, cards on the table. Since you've come to Weirdale in person, I am going to teach you a lesson tonight. Your projects are all up to me. I am the one to call the shots. And all the suppliers are at my disposal. If you want them, just make me your best apology, or you may not be able to walk out of this door," Chace smote the table and said. The simper on his face was long gone as if it didn't even appear.

Everly was astonished. How could someone be so arrogant and high-handed when doing business in the civilized world?

However, Maverick did not pay attention to him at all and moreover, he didn't even look at him.

He turned to Everly and saw the expression on her face changed. It was not difficult for him to figure out what she thought from her face.

After all, she was young.

He brought her to the first dinner party because he wanted her to gain more experience.
