But honestly, no matter how hard she racked her brain, Calliope couldn’t come up with a better solution. This whole thing was just... hopeless.
When she woke up and wandered out of her room, she found Lance already back. He was sitting alone on the living room couch, silent.
Normally, he was the picture of composure, always so put-together, but now he just looked defeated. His hair was a mess, and he looked like he hadn’t slept in days. He was completely lost, staring off at nothing.
"You’re back?" Calliope walked over and sat beside him. She expected maybe the smell of whiskey, but there was nothing—just the stale air of a bad night. At least she knew he hadn’t gone out drinking, probably just stormed off to cool down.
"Yeah," Lance muttered, barely glancing at her, dark circles heavy under his eyes.
"So... does he really not have much time left? Can you tell me exactly how long?"
There was a desperate hope in Lance’s eyes. "Even if he can’t be cured, is there any way to keep him going a bit longer?"
Calliope hesitated. "Look, I can make him more comfortable, maybe ease his pain a little. I’ll do my best, and I’ll talk to some colleagues to see if anyone has any ideas. But... like I said yesterday, you need to be ready. This illness, honestly, even my old mentor couldn’t fix something like this."
Lance looked away, crushed. He’d gone to Calliope thinking it was something small, an easy fix. He never imagined it would be this serious. And now, faced with the truth, he could do nothing but hope it was all just a bad dream. That he’d wake up, and everything would be okay.
"Everyone’s got their fate," Calliope said softly, at a loss for words. "Accidents happen, but you and Hudson still have a little time left together."
Lance nodded slowly. He was starting to accept it. There really was nothing else to be done.
Not long after, Hudson came downstairs.
By then, Lance had pulled himself together. He greeted Hudson with a big smile, acting like nothing was wrong. But something had changed. Instead of letting Hudson fuss over him like before, Lance turned the tables—he was the one looking after Hudson now.

Oh wrestling expert ey? So is this Khamzat Chimaev or Shavkat Rakhmonov? Because Khabib's would be too haram....
Oh no. Million is just mix of Conor McGregor, Islam Makhachev, Mike Tyson, Max Holloway, Anderson Silva... I bet he lands 5sec flying knees like Jorge Masvidal too. Oh nope, 1sec knees. And has faster left hooks than Alex Pereira. Definitely would win UFC championship in every weight division including women. Poor Zhang Weili....
Okay so.... Million is now from East. Arctic wolf from East, modified genetically so he can manage his own Instagram and probably also box like Mike Tyson and snapping left hooks like Alex Pereira....
This is starting to be the same twister of abilities as Cassandra Yates and Tiffany. But question is, why the hell Silas can't just open his mouth and tell Caliope that she's the one whom he has in his heart. He would prevent a lot of misunderstanding. Seems like despite capability of talking with modified arctic wolf, she's not like telepathic....
Oh no, so FL is again another hidden genius with both hemispheres working on hundreds... Ffffuuuu. Cassandra Yates and Tiffany were already enough, ughugh. And Tiffany was even more exaggerated than Cassandra....
That's weird, in the first chapters there was said that her bio parents and bros doteď on Caliope but then they adopted Lisette, but this chapter suddenly says otherwise. Did author forget what he wrote?...
