She had that kind of expression when facing Theo?
Theo walked over, his sharp eyes catching Sierra's focused gaze on her phone.
His cool, deep voice broke the silence. "What are you looking at?"
Sierra snapped back to reality, quickly locking her phone before flashing an innocent smile. "Nothing."
Theo's dark eyes flickered slightly with curiosity. He took a seat beside her hospital bed, watching her closely. His voice was low, steady. "I heard Liam offered you money. Why didn't you take it?"
Sierra paused momentarily, lightly biting her lip before speaking slowly, "Mr. Gray gave me money because he was worried I might spread the news about Benson getting into trouble with the police, which could affect him. It was meant to silence me. I agreed to let Benson out partly because he saved me once. The other reason stems from me wanting to show you some respect, Uncle Theo."
Theo raised a brow slightly, his dark gaze locked onto hers. "Oh?"
Sierra exhaled slowly. "Mr. Gray and you are brothers. I didn't want to cause tension between you two because of me."
His gaze softened as he listened. His voice was gentle but with quiet strength. "You don't have to think about me. And you never have to suffer for anyone else's sake either. Do what you want that makes you happy—that's what matters most."
Like a stream of warmth spreading through her chest, Sierra felt an unfamiliar sense of security settle over her.
"That's exactly right!" Madison huffed from across the room, her arms crossed. "Honestly, you should've taken the money. That woman already thinks you've spent years living off Benson—might as well let her choke on her assumptions!"
Just the thought of Janet's smug attitude made Madison furious.
Theo's voice was steady as he made a promise. "You don't have to put up with anyone's nonsense anymore. No matter what happens, I'll have your back."
