Not wanting to disturb the pair, Madison playfully handed over the water with a teasing look. "Take your medicine first. Deal with your heart-to-heart later. The competition is important."
Theo frowned. "What medicine?"
Sierra took the water and explained in a low voice, "It's painkillers. I'm worried the shoulder injury might affect my performance."
Watching her swallow the pill with a slight grimace, he reached into his pocket.
A staff member clapped her hands, grabbing everyone's attention. "Everyone, please come over to draw lots. The competition is about to start."
Madison worried that someone might accidentally bump into Sierra's injury. To keep her safe, she volunteered to draw the lot on her behalf.
She got number three in the lot, right in the middle—not ideal, but not the worst either.
Madison wasn't entirely satisfied. She felt it would have been better to perform later in the lineup. That way, Sierra could leave a stronger impression on the judges.
However, Sierra didn't mind. She just wanted to give her best and present her piece to the audience.
The host had already begun the opening remarks. Within minutes, the first contestant stepped onto the stage.
The melody was light and flowing, with minor flaws that didn't detract from the enjoyment.
A feast for the ears had begun!
Sierra's fingers tapped lightly on her leg as she closed her eyes, grounding herself in the moment.
Theo's lips were pale, his right hand resting motionless on his leg.
Madison nervously rubbed her hands together, muttering, "Hope everything goes well."
"...Next, please welcome contestant number three."
The host's voice announced.
Sierra stood up, her arms hanging naturally at her sides. Her curvy figure was accentuated by a sleek black dress.
Her long hair cascaded down her back as she stepped onto the stage in silver high heels. With her head held high, she carried herself like a proud princess.
She gracefully made her way to the piano bench, took a deep breath, and let her hands rest naturally on the keys.
The melodious sound of the piano filled the air. As Sierra became more immersed in the music, her movements grew more expressive.
