Theo walked over, bent down, and picked her up as he replied in a gentle voice, "Alright."
Wrapping her arms around his neck, Sierra looked calmly at Douglas, who was still crouching on the ground. Her voice was steady. "I nearly got killed at your resort. I need an explanation."
Douglas looked up abruptly with frustration. "What kind of explanation do you want? Melody is already in this state. What more do you expect? Do you want her to apologize?"
No one had expected the usually mild-mannered Sierra to suddenly press the issue. What was even more surprising was how agitated Douglas became. The tension in the room thickened again.
Theo was about to speak when a small, delicate hand covered his mouth. Sierra's tone remained unchanged, calm, and composed. "Ms. Jones lost control of her horse, and I nearly died because of it. Doesn't she owe me an apology?
"And, Mr. Brown, aside from Ms. Jones, as the owner of this resort, don't you owe me an explanation as well?"
Douglas looked at the woman nestled in Theo's arms. She appeared petite and had always been so quiet in the past. Yet now, she was actually demanding an explanation from him.
If this had nothing to do with Melody, he would have apologized immediately, maybe even praised her for having the guts to stand up for herself. But…
He glanced at Melody and noticed the shame and frustration in her eyes. With a sigh, he hardened his stance. "I'll have Theo deliver the compensation in a few days. As for an apology, that's not happening."
Sierra looked at him for a long moment before the corners of her lips curled into a cold smile. She leaned against Theo's shoulder and closed her eyes as she murmured, "You have terrible taste in friends."
It sounded like a complaint, maybe even a bit of teasing, but everyone who heard it had a different reaction.
Theo shot Douglas a frosty glance before stepping out of the room. "Mmm. I'll be more mindful next time."
As the two of them left, Daniel and Simon turned to look at Douglas, whose face had changed color. They couldn't help but sigh.
