Sensing Melody's actions, Theo subconsciously took a step backward, pulling Sierra with him. This caused her to stumble as a result.
Luckily, he had reached out to wrap his arm around her waist in time.
Once Sierra regained her balance, he turned to Melody and answered, "I need to accompany Sierra. I think it's better that you ask Mr. Jones to accompany you instead."
Feeling dejected by his rejection, Melody took her hand back in embarrassment. Her eyes turned red as she fought her tears back.
Then, she turned to look at Douglas, who was standing nearby, and said, "Dad, you can go ahead and do whatever you need to do. I'll ask Douglas to take me around and introduce me to the people here."
Seemingly unable to sense the tension between the three people, Gordon smiled, replying, "I guess I'd have to trouble you to take care of Melody for me, Mr. Gray."
Before Theo could refuse, he turned around and walked away.
Frowning, Sierra watched Gordon leave in confusion.
It was already bad enough that Melody was clinging onto a married man, so why did he not stop her but instead helped her? Wasn't he afraid people would start calling his daughter a homewrecker?
Not far away, Douglas had been keeping an eye on Melody. He had wanted to go over when he saw Theo rejecting Melody. However, he stopped in his tracks when he recalled his father's warning.
It wasn't until she sent him a pleading look with teary eyes that he could no longer hold himself back any longer.
With his wine glass in hand, he walked toward them, remarking, "Melody, Theo, what are you two talking about?"
Sensing that Theo's sharp gaze was on him, he smiled and turned to Sierra. "Sierra, I did not expect to see you here."
Sierra gave him a slight nod, clearly not intending to speak to him.
Douglas took no offence at her attitude toward him. Turning his attention back to Melody, he continued, "Why don't I bring you around? A few of my friends that you might not know are over there. Why don't I introduce you to them?"
Melody looked at Theo. Seeing that he did not intend to stop her from leaving, her expression was filled with sadness as she left with Douglas.
