Chapter 44 She Has No Home 

Sierra’s expression shifted slightly as she answered Vera’s call. “Hello, Mom,” 

“Cee, it’s your brother’s birthday today. Come home for damer.” 

“Mom, I’ve been really busy lately. I already sent my gift for him to the house. I’ll come by as soon as I finish everything.” 

“Cee, you…” 

Before Vera could finish, a burst of noise interrupted the call. A few seconds later, William’s cold, disapproving voice came through. 

“Today is your brother’s 20th birthday. Bring Benson with you and come home tonight.” 

Siena frowned, responding. “He’s busy with work. He doesn’t have time.” 

“Don’t make excuses,” William snapped. 

“If you refuse, I’ll call Benson myself to see if he’s really busy or if it’s just you not wanting to come back Have you been away for so long that you’ve forgotten the need to come back?” 

Hearing the sarcasm and threats in William’s voice, Siema’s grip on the phone tightened. 

She lowered her head, took a deep breath, and forced back the bitterness and hurt rising inside her. She said softly, “I understand. I’ll come back”

Sierra let her hand drop limply, her nose tingling as she fought to swallow the lump in her throat. Home? She hadn’t had a real home for a long time. The Shaw residence had never been her home. 

William only wanted her to come back because of her connection to Benson. Without that, she wouldn’t even be allowed near the Shaw residence. 

The truth couldn’t stay hidden forever. Eventually, she would have to tell William about her breakup with Benson to spare the Gray family from any further disturbances. 

At 6:00p.m., Sierra returned to the Shaw residence. 

William’s face darkened when he saw her come in alone. He immediately asked, “Where’s Benson? Didn’t I tell you to bring him?”
