Never Late, Never Away Chapter 2538

“Caspian, where are you?”

Some time had passed between Nancy’s last rampage and her recovery. When she finally sobered up, drained of energy, she turned to Joan and asked in a feeble tone, “Really? Did I really do that, Joan? Have I been shouting Caspian’s name last night?”

“Yes. Loudly, I might add,” Joan replied.

“I just wanted to drink. Drinking with Caspian had been the most enjoyable times of my life,” Nancy talked about the past.

Joan knew that Nancy and Caspian were nothing more than friends at the moment. Clearly, the woman had little to hide from him, and Caspian would always tolerate her.

“Alright, you seem fine now. I’m getting you home, and you should have a nice, long talk with Jory. You should have seen yourself yesterday, Nancy. You’ve gone way too far!” Joan muttered as she got dressed.

At that moment, guilt and resignation had begun to show on Nancy’s face.

“I’m just worried, okay? Why can’t he just walk a mile in my shoes?” Nancy complained.

Oh, dear. Nancy, you just don’t get it, do you? Jory has walked many miles in your shoes!

“Phone’s ringing.” Joan pointed at the device on the table. Nancy picked it up.

“When are you coming back? We need to talk,” came a man’s voice over the phone. It was soft and gentle, not wanting the woman to know that he was upset.

“I’m still at the hotel,” Nancy answered.

After that, there was a pin-drop silence. She hoped very much that the man could come get her, but alas Jory was still swamped with work.

“I’ll wait for you to come home.” The man hung up the phone after that.

The device beeped several times, signaling the end of the call and crushing Nancy’s hopes along with it.

“What now? What did he say?” Joan asked.

“He says he wants to talk. Joan, come home with me, will you? I’m scared,” Nancy begged her friend, her voice trembling.

What’s there to be scared of? He’s your husband, for god’s sake! Why are you suddenly so insecure? Why do you stubbornly insist that he’s having an affair?

“Alright, I’ll come with you!” Joan proceeded to put on her shoes.

She had no idea how or why the woman in front of her had suddenly become so sensitive, but she was willing to stay by her side while she gradually recovered.
