Matthew had no idea how long he could protect Jared.
The mention of self-destruction was merely an empty threat to scare Wrey.
Even if Wrey was unfazed, the various sect members at the scene would surely intervene.
They would do their best to stop Matthew's self-destruction, as it would undoubtedly cause harm to those around him.
These people had no qualms about uniting with opposing sects to protect their selfish interests. Once that happened, Matthew's Luminous Sect would have no means to defend itself against their attack.
He had to send Jared away while Wrey was still frightened by his threats.
Jared nodded toward Matthew and fled.
Wrey noticed Jared's escape and was about to act. However, Matthew rushed forward and blocked his path, acting as though he was fighting for his life.
Alas, Wrey could only watch Jared slip through his fingers.
“Flying Star Sect and Luminous Sect are sworn enemies from now on, Matthew,” seethed Wrey.
“Please, did you think I'm scared of you?” replied Matthew fearlessly.
Matthew and Wrey glared at each other.
A moment later, Wrey's lips curved into a smirk, and he drawled, “I fell for your trick earlier, Matthew. Now that everyone's here, plenty of people will stop you from self-destructing. If your claims are even true, that is. You're not getting your way today. As long as Jared is in this secret realm, I will not let him escape, even if I use all my resources from Flying Star Sect.”
He turned to the others and announced, “Listen up. I'll award three years' worth of Flying Star Sect's resources to the person who captures and kills Jared. You've seen for yourselves that Jared is seriously wounded. He's no better than a cripple. Killing him should be child's play!”
Wrey knew Flying Star Sect's members would have a hard time scouring the vast secret realm for Jared. Besides, Matthew would be attempting to stop their efforts at every turn.
