Once Emmanuel and his entourage had departed, Owen, visibly trembling
with a mixture of excitement and dread, erupted, “Larry, are you out of your
mind? These people are from the Quillen family! Rumor has it that they were
ruthlessly slaughtered by the chairman of the Chamber of Commerce! By
assisting them, aren’t you brazenly defying the President? You’ll drag our
family into this perilous storm!”
Larry, his demeanor calm and composed, responded, “And what do you
propose? Should we summon the police or alert the President’s agents,
hoping our actions might serve as a token offering?”
To Larry’s astonishment, Owen nodded in agreement, which only fueled
Larry’s frustration further.
“Foolish simpleton! Ignorant fool!” Larry scolded sharply. “If you resort to that,
the police and any help we might call will be too late to save us from
annihilation! Can’t you grasp the gravity of the situation? Emmanuel’s group
is formidable enough to lay waste to an entire city!”

“What?” Owen’s disbelief was palpable, “Larry, have you lost your sanity? Two
or three thousand people can’t possibly destroy a city!”
Larry, exhausted and beyond the point of argument, had resolved to offer his
ald to Emmanuel. With Larry’s assistance, Emmanuel and his wife managed
to navigate their way to the southern states safely by car.
The remaining members of their group, except Rhett–who stayed behind to safeguard Mackenzie–were instructed by Emmanuel to proceed to the base
of the Wolf Warrior Society, where Sage and Eve would ensure their
well–being.
Emmanuel, however, drove directly to the Quillen residence.
“Mackenzie, I’m so frightened,” she whispered, her voice trembling as she sat
in the passenger seat. Her hand pressed lightly against her heart, her entire
body drenched in cold sweat. The fear of what she might encounter was
almost unbearable.
“Mackenzie, perhaps you should rest somewhere else first? I’ll

investigate the situation,” Emmanuel suggested gently, clasping her hand
tightly, attempting to instill some courage within her.
“No. That would only heighten my anxiety. I need to know everything
immediately,” Mackenzie insisted, her resolve unwavering. Despite having a
new phone, she hadn’t reached out to Lexi yet, as she wished to see the
Quillen residence firsthand before seeking more information.
“Mackenzie, do not worry. Everyone will be alright, especially your grandfather.
He is a man of great fortune, Emmanuel reassured her, his voice a mixture of
comfort and genuine belief.
Had old Terence not been favored by fortune, he wouldn’t have risen from
humble beginnings to become the wealthiest man in the southern states.
This time, he and everyone else would surely prevail… right?
The three of them emerged from the car. Mackenzie nearly crumpled at the sight that met her eyes. Fortunately, Emmanuel was there to steady her.
“Why? Who could have done this? Why such cruelty?” she lamented.

Mackenzie, usually a pillar of strength, had endured a year of ceaseless trials.
Now, as a pregnant woman confronting such devastation, she felt on the
brink of her endurance,
“Mackenzie, let us go inside and see what has transpired,” Emmanuel said, his
eyes, fierce and pained, struggling to contain his emotions.
Mackenzie nodded, steeling herself with the resolve that, regardless of the
circumstances, she had to remain strong.
She had Emmanuel and their unborn child to think of. She had to be resilient
for those she cherished. She couldn’t afford to falter.
“Ms. Quillen!”
“Mackenzie!”
In that poignant moment, Lexi emerged from a car parked behind them, hurrying forward with Beatrix close at her heels. The sight of them, amid the
chaos and fear, was like a beacon of hope.
