Chapter 274
“Is it so hard to serve my mother and father a cup of tea each morning?”
Jaxton was already angry at Roselynn and felt annoyed by her reaction. The
Oatleys had been raised to be filial and so respecting elders was a must. He
didn’t think there was anything wrong with it.
She looked somewhat conflicted though. “I–I’ll try my best. I may not be able
to get up so early if I get too tired or fall sick.”
She had already made a great compromise!
However, Jennifer’s eyes became cold. “I have married into the Oatley family
for more than thirty years, and always served my mother–in-law tea each
morning when she was still alive no matter what.”
“That’s what you did, but I may not be able to do it!” Roselynn replied plainly. It
was how she had always behaved–never agree to anything she couldn’t do
in case someone used it against her and blamed her for it.
Jaxton felt she was too disrespectful toward her parents and became
furious. “Alright, we’ll discuss this another time since the banquet is still going
Sebastian was satisfied with Roselynn’s appearance and didn’t want quarrels
to happen on the day of the wedding because the Oatleys would be
embarrassed. So, he quickly put a stop to the discussion.
The moment might have passed, but Roselynn still felt something stuck
inside her throat. She was more afraid of marrying into the family now; had
she known they would be so strict, she wouldn’t have recklessly accepted
Jaxton’s proposal.
The banquet was held in a local 5–star hotel. The Oatleys were businessmen
and had far–reaching social connections, so the entire floor of the hotel was
filled with family and friends. It was truly on a grander scale compared to the
one her family had held. This was thanks to Jaxton’s astounding assets that
had been displayed before Roselynn on occasion.
Meanwhile, Jessica who had been so arrogant the day before maintained a
low profile without showing herself off. Roselynn, thinking that Jessica didn’t
have anyone to show off to, didn’t pay it any mind.
Claudette and Roselynn’s other girlfriends arrived at noon. Roselynn, who felt
like she was facing everything alone, felt somewhat settled by their
presence. Since Claudette had flown under the radar and started work from
the lower ranks of the company, the Oatleys wouldn’t know that she was the
eldest heiress to the prominent Lenoir family.
“Claudette, I don’t want to get married anymore. What should I do?” Roselynn
only dared to whisper this to Claudette when they were left alone. She wasn’t
brave enough to say this to Manny or her mother at all. After all, she was
already thirty and had eventually gotten hitched, making her mother
relieved. If she told her family about this, they would definitely worry.
“Why, Roselynn?” Claudette loved having deep conversations with Roselynn▸
since she felt distanced from Roselynn whenever Roselynn called her Ms.
Lenoir. Plus, addressing Roselynn by her name gave Claudette a strange
