Donald drew in a sharp breath. He asked, “What did you just say? You’re not leaving Nareigh?”

Jennifer said, “After you woke up, I called my friend and told her I’m not going to Shaville anymore. I’ve decided to stay in Nareigh instead. Maybe the wrecked car is a sign that I’m meant to stay here.”

Donald took Jennifer’s hand and said, “Then go to work at Nareigh General Hospital. I’ll go with you. I’ll stay by your side and protect you, always.”

Jennifer felt a warm sweetness rise in her chest, but she sighed in mock frustration. She said, “Fine, do whatever you want. I just can’t stop worrying about you, a certain fool.”

But Jennifer was the one who decided to leave. She glanced at Donald and said calmly, “You should talk to your mom.” Then, with a polite nod to Cathy, she walked out.

Cathy’s gaze followed Jennifer until she disappeared. Then she turned back to Donald and said, “She’s quite beautiful. Be honest with me, she’s not just a colleague, is she? She’s the one you’ve been pining for, isn’t she?”
