268 Chapter 268
268.Chapter 268
Back at home, Irene finally let her emotions get the better of her and cried her heart out. She knew Hayden always gave her cold shoulder, but she had no choice but to endure it. She tried her best to avoid clashing with him.
But today, in front of everyone, Hayden slammed the table and berated her. She couldn‘ t understand why Hayden, her father–in–law, would treat her like this.
Feeling utterly wronged and with no one to turn to, Irene called Heidi to vent. But Heidi‘ s half–hearted responses only made her feel worse. The only person she could truly confide in was her son, Jonathan.
Meanwhile, Jonathan was in Everport when he passed by a bustling deli. The bright red signboard caught his eye. On a whim, he told the driver to pull over. He suddenly remembered how much Teresa loved pork chops.
Just then, Jonathan’s phone rang–it was Irene calling.
Jonathan turned to answer the call, completely unaware that just a few feet away, a woman in a baseball cap and coat was walking past him. She carried a bag of freshly bought pork chops, her figure brushing past him as she, went.
“Hello?” Jonathan answered the call, his brows furrowing slightly.
“Jonathan, you have to come back for the family dinner. Please be there for Mom,” Irene said suddenly, her voice trembling. Jonathan could hear her crying.
Irene chose not to mention Hayden’s harsh words. She had her reasons–she couldn’t let Jonathan and Hayden fall out because of her.
“It’s nothing. It’s just… Every time Donald comes back, I can’t help but notice you never do. You’re the eldest grandson, Jonathan. Even though your dad’s gone, you’re still the eldest grandson,” she said, her voice heavy with emotion.
Jonathan’s frown deepened as he glanced around. As he turned his head to the left, the woman in a cap disappeared around the corner. Neither of them noticed the other.
“I’ll try to make it back for May 1st. We’ll talk then,” Jonathan replied before ending the call. After buying the honey garlic pork chop, he paid and got back into the car. The driver glanced at him and asked, “You a fan of pork chops, Mr. Lynn?”
Jonathan’s gaze darkened, a trace of bitterness.flashing in his eyes. He let out a quiet. sigh and said, “Just drive.” The black Maybach rolled away, fading into the distance.
Edward came home from school successfully unlocked elebrate his birthday on April 19th. Heidi had promised him a big up. But when he got home, she revealed the surprise to be a blind date.
“Mom, seriously? I’m just 22.” Edward exclaimed, his frustration evident.
“Anyway,” Heidi continued, “Irene has already arranged everything. If you don’t go, she’ll be upset, and it’ll look like I don’t appreciate her efforts. That could make things difficult for you if you ever want to work at Jonathan’s company.”
