Benny got in touch with Jonathan, and Jonathan only left Miriam’s apartment complex after agreeing to grab a drink with him.
It wasn’t until Jonathan had a few drinks with him that Benny finally got the truth out of him. Jonathan misunderstood Teresa. He’d seen har at a houdi with another man, who turned out to be a friend of Teresa’s older sister.
“I’ll look into the hotel records for you. Don’t jump to conclusions yet,” Benny said, not even waiting for Jonathan’s reply before getting to work
By the time Jonathan sobered up, it was already the next day. The office called and he hadn’t been in for two days. “I’ve got something going on these days. Let the deputy handle things for now. That’s all,” he said before hanging up.
He hung up and went to look for Teresa again. He knew he was in no shape to work anyway, even if he did go

“Yeah,” Jonathan said. “I know.”
“If you know, then what are you still overthinking?”

Jonathan was quiet for a few seconds before finally saying, “It wasn’t until she slapped me that I realized.” That’s when he understood that he’d gotten it all wrong.
With Teresa’s temper, if she’d really done what he accused her of–if she’d actually gone to a hotel–she wouldn’t have hit him that hard. The harder she hit, the more it proved nothing happened. She hit him because she was furious at what he said.
Jonathan drove to Teresa’s office building again. The receptionist apologized, “Ms. Johnston asked me to let you know she’s out having dinner with her boyfriend.”
Jonathan didn’t leave. He waited in the lobby.
Jonathan was speechless. Teresa stayed at the office working and didn’t go home. It was already past ten, and Jonathan was still waiting outside her company, watching the light in her office window.
He thought for a moment, then sent another. [Honestly, I haven’t eaten all day. My phone’s down to one bar and about to die. I didn’t bring my charger
