Evelyn’s words trailed off as she spotted someone approaching.

“Mom,” Jennifer called out, and then, she said coldly, “What are you doing here with Teresa’s ex–husband?”

Evelyn lowered her head in guilt. “Jonathan and I were just casually chatting.”

Jennifer’s eyes landed on the bank card on the table, and she seemed to get the picture. She pulled Evelyn up from her seat.

After that, Jennifer turned to Jonathan and said, “Thanks for your kindness.

“But you’re not Teresa’s husband anymore. Stop putting her in a tough spot. Don’t give her any more hope, and don’t meet with anyone from our family alone again.”

Jonathan frowned. Before he could say anything, Jennifer had already led Evelyn away.

Evelyn shook her head. “You misunderstood me, Hannah. Jonathan offered me money, but I didn’t take it. I just saw he still cares about Teresa, and honestly, I can’t stand seeing them like this.”

Jennifer let out a cold laugh. “No wonder you always get taken advantage of. Do you actually feel sorry for men? After everything they’ve put you through, haven’t you still learned?”

Evelyn fell silent, not daring to argue back. After all, she hadn’t been there as a mother all these years, and the guilt weighed on her.

She said, “Charlie was arrested, so I asked Jonathan to help me find a lawyer. He agreed right away. He is always willing to help me, no questions asked.”

Jennifer was speechless. “Why did you ask him for a lawyer? Why not ask Teresa or me? You act like your own children are gone or something.”

Jennifer interrupted her. “Alright, I don’t care what you mean. Teresa’s ex has nothing to do with her, or with us.

Jennifer let out a cold laugh. “What about me? had been missing for years, all alone out there. It took everything I had to get where I am now. Did you ever once think about my feelings?”

Evelyn replied, “Hannah, how could I not care about your feelings? I want to consider both of you and Teresa.“
