Felicity continued, “I was originally in talks with the movie and TV company, but she messed everything up. The project about Elara’s novel didn’t get signed and was handed over to another company instead.” 

“Is that true?” Aubrey’s voice grew louder. 

The fork in his hand shook, slipping from his grasp and clattering onto the table. 

A maid quickly brought him a new one. 

Elara glanced at him. “Why are you getting so worked up?” 

“No, it’s nothing…” Aubrey said. 

Aubrey suddenly remembered how Charlotte had done everything she could to sound out him when he had just returned He didn’t expect her to do such a thing behind his back. 

At that moment, his phone rang. He glanced at it and stood up awkwardly. “I need to take this call,” he muttered, walking out the door.
