As soon as Elara finished speaking, Lysander’s handsome face was already right in front of hers. For a moment, Elara froze. 

Although she had seen this face countless times before, it still made her heart race when it was so close. ‘He’s just too good- looking, Elara thought to herself. 

Lysander reached out and helped her adjust her seatbelt. “Did you miss me?” 

‘He’s becoming more and more direct, Elara thought. Elara gave him a quick kiss on the cheek. “Of course.” 

All the gloom from the day seemed to vanish in an instant. When they arrived back at the Hawthorne residence and sat down for dinner, Evelyn was also home. 

Evelyn sat beside Elara and looked at her curiously. “Elara, I heard you became a lawyer?” 

Elara nodded. “I’m interning at a law firm.” 

“Which one?” Evelyn asked. 

Elara replied honestly, “Minkean House.” 

“When did you start?” Evelyn said, her voice tinged with surprise. “You didn’t even tell me. Who are you working with?” 

“Hazel,” Elara answered. 

“Oh, him,” Evelyn said. “He’s not bad. He’s someone you can learn from if you work with him.” 

Elara thought about Hazel. He wasn’t bad, but he was too good at flattering the powerful. Elara found that side of him hard to tolerate. However, she didn’t bring this up at the dinner table. 

After finishing dinner, Elara followed Lysander back home. That night, Elara was busy and didn’t get to bed until late. 

She thought Lysander had already fallen asleep, but as soon as she lay down, he turned around and pulled her into his arms. “Finally done?” 

“Yes,” Elara replied, her mind still occupied with how to handle things with Natalie. She definitely wasn’t willing to leave it to Adair. But looking at Lysander, Elara found it hard to bring it up. 

She didn’t want him to think she was someone who only relied on him. Lysander looked at her and said, “Is something wrong at work?” 

He had figured it out immediately. Elara thought she had hidden it well, but his concern still caught her off guard. She smiled faintly and said, “It’s fine.” 

Lysander gently brushed her hair away from her face. “I know you don’t want me to handle your problems, but you need to remember that as long as I’m here, I’m someone you can depend on. 

“Elara, you don’t always have to handle everything on your own. 

He knew her too well after all these years. Even though Elara had a good relationship with him, she often seemed like she preferred being independent. 

Elara nodded at his words. “Okay.” 

Because of what had happened before with time travel, Elara didn’t dare trust others too easily. Even though she liked Lysander, she always kept a part of herself reserved, just in case

The next morning, Elara arrived at the law firm early. She didn’t rush inside but waited by the door. When she saw Hazel coming in, she greeted him and walked up to him. “Hazel, good morning. I got you some coffee.” 

Hazel looked at her. Seeing her smiling today, unlike yesterday, he asked, “Have you decided about the case?” 

“Of course,” Elara replied. “Last night, when I had dinner with Ms. Hawthorne, she said you’re a great lawyer and very capable. She said that working with you, I’ll definitely learn a lot about the company.” 

Hazel, holding the coffee Elara had given him, took a sip, then paused when he heard her mention Ms. Hawthorne. “Ms. Hawthorne? Which Ms. Hawthorne?” 

The law firm only has one lawyer with the last name Hawthorne. ‘It couldn’t be the one she’s talking about, Hazel thought to himself. 

Elara replied, “The boss of our firm, Evelyn.” 

Hazel nearly spat out the coffee he had just sipped. He stared at Elara in disbelief. “You had dinner with Evelyn?” 

“Yeah,” Elara said. “We had dinner last night. If she hadn’t mentioned it, I wouldn’t have known just how amazing you are.” 

Seeing Hazel’s calm expression, Elara couldn’t help but notice him carefully observing her. Before Adair arrived, he had been briefed at home. 

Hazel had been so focused on caring about Adair that he hadn’t paid much attention to Elara’s background. He never expected Elara to be someone capable of dining with Evelyn. 

Worried Elara might be bluffing, Hazel asked, “What’s your relationship with her?” 

“My mom and she are friends, so I know her,” Elara explained. 

“Who’s your mom?” Hazel asked. 

“Ziva,” Elara replied. 

As they entered the elevator, Hazel glanced at Elara through the reflective doors. ‘She’s Ziva’s daughter?‘ Hazel thought to himself. 

Before becoming a lawyer, Hazel had read news about Ziva. In a way, it was because of Ziva that he had wanted to become a lawyer. 

But after seeing what happened to Ziva, Hazel had become more cautious. He realized that, in this world, one often had to adapt to the rules. 

Thinking back to what he had said to Elara yesterday, Hazel couldn’t help but feel a little awkward. He turned to her and said, “Prepare the divorce case for Miss Jarvis. I’ll bring you in on it.” 

“Okay, thank you, Hazel,” Elara said. 

In the afternoon, Adair came straight over and slammed a thick book onto Elara’s desk. Elara looked up at her. “What’s going 

on?” 

Adair said, “Hazel was supposed to handle the divorce case, but you stole it from me?”
