Chapter 174
Elara nodded. “Yes.”
Felicity gave her a warm smile. “Looks like it’s just us girls relying on each other”
Elara laughed. “You get some rest, alright?”
Felicity said, “Zavala and the others are still around.”
Elara said, “It’s alright. You rest, and I’ll check on them downstairs. You haven’t eaten, have you? I’ll arrange something for you.”
With that, she headed downstairs.
Adair was already gone. Only Zavala was there, sitting by herself
Elara asked, “Adair already left?”
Zavala said, “Yeah. She got a call and rushed off. No idea what for. By the way, I heard you’ve officially taken up the position.”
Elara said, “Yes!”
“That’s wonderful!” Zavala laughed. “We might need your help with something someday.”
Elara chuckled. “Oh, we have so many lawyers in the family. If anyone’s needed, it would probably be my mentor.”
Zavala said, “Your mentor? She’s hard to get hold of! Even arranging a meal with her is impossible.”
Elara responded, “If Adair doesn’t mind, you can always come to me. I’d be more than happy to help!”
Zavala laughed.
Elara excused herself, saying, “I’ll go check on the kitchen.”
She arranged dinner, made sure everything was in order, and then returned.
Zavala observed Elara, noticing how different she seemed.
In the past, she’d visit briefly, almost in passing. Now, she handled everything as if it were her own home, arranging things smoothly and attentively.
Zavala asked, “How’s it going living here with Lysander?”
Elara replied, “It’s going well! But he’s always so busy with work, hardly has any time at home, so I come by to help look after things when I can.”
Zavala remarked, “I worried you wouldn’t be comfortable here, but it looks like you’re doing fine.”
Elara smiled slightly. She’d spent so many years in cramped apartments that she could adapt to anything now.
Not long after, Aubrey and Lysander arrived.
“Hi, Elara,” Aubrey greeted Elara.
Elara glanced between the two brothers, her gaze settling on Lysander. “What brings you here?”
Lysander replied, “I heard you were here, so I came by to see you.”

Elara frowned. “How did you know I’m here?”
Lysander looked at her, avoiding the question.
Aubrey said, “I’ll go check on Mom.” He then headed upstairs.
Elara turned back to Lysander, stepping up to him. “You still haven’t answered my question!”
Lysander greeted Zavala, “Good to see you, Aunt Zavala.”
Zavala replied, “Lysander, it’s been a while.”
He nodded. “Yeah.”
Lysander became more accustomed to social greetings and no longer displayed every irritation openly.
Elara took a moment to study him before going to Felicity’s room to deliver her meal. Then she invited everyone to the dining room.
Since Elara had already eaten, she sat beside Lysander, accompanying him. “You still haven’t answered me.”
Lysander asked, “Which question?”
Elara responded, “Why do I feel like everything I do is always within your sight? Are you keeping tabs on me?” Lysander raised an eyebrow. “Is there something secretive about coming here? Do I need to keep tabs on you?” Elara teased, “Ask yourself! If you were keeping an eye on me all the time, that would be seriously creepy.”
Lysander gave her a look. Under the lights, her skin seemed to glow.
If it were possible, he’d keep her close twenty–four hours a day. But he knew that wasn’t realistic.
He said, “Even if I am keeping an eye on you, it’s only for your safety. Would I ever harm you?”
Elara raised an eyebrow. “You’re so busy. Would you have time to keep me safe?”
He added, “I’ll only be at ease if you’re safe.”

Elara stayed with Lysander for dinner, and the two decided to spend the night at the Hawthorne family’s house.
With Felicity feeling unwell, the family needed help managing things, so Elara stayed to lend a hand.
Later that night, as they lay in bed, Elara looked at Lysander, cherishing the rare moment of having him by her side. “You know I’m a full–time lawyer now, right?”
He replied, “Yes. Didn’t you message me about it?”
She added, “I thought you might have forgotten with all you have going on.”
Before she finished speaking, he moved closer, wrapping an arm around her waist. His face nestled against her neck. “I wouldn’t forget anything about you.”
“Lysander,” Elara whispered, savoring the quiet intimacy, “Do you think there’ll come a day when we aren’t as close as we are
now?”
He lifted his head, looking at her, a flicker of resistance in his eyes. “Why would you think that?”

She said, “Well, when you’re not around, I start thinking too much. You know, you can’t stay in love forever, right?”
“Why not?” Lysander met her gaze. “You don’t plan to love me forever?”
Elara admitted, “I don’t know. I’ve seen high school friends who got married early and are already divorced.”

After a moment of silence, Lysander replied, “Don’t worry. I’ll always love you.” His voice was soft but filled with certainty.
Looking at him, Elara teased, “Then smile for me.”
Lysander ignored her playful request, pulling her closer instead.
The next morning, when Elara woke up, Lysander had already left. She noticed he’d sent a message: [I have something up this morning. Good morning.]
When Elara went downstairs, she found Felicity up and giving instructions to the household staff.
When she saw Elara, she smiled and said, “Elara, you’re up!”
Elara smiled. “How are you feeling?”
