Elara responded with a polite smile. “Sure, Zavala.” 

Not long after, the rest of the family arrived. His uncle and Aubrey joined them. Although it wasn’t a large gathering, it was rare for the family to come together like this. 

Lysander and his father didn’t show up. They were undoubtedly the two busiest people in the family. Adair also made an 

appearance. 

As soon as she walked in and saw Zavala, she greeted her. “Hi, Aunt Zavala.” 

Zavala smiled and gestured for her to sit down. “Take a seat. Why didn’t you bring your boyfriend along?” 

Adair grinned mischievously. “I wanted to, but I was worried he might scare everyone off. Next time, I’ll pick a good day and have him treat everyone to a meal.” 

A few days ago, Asher had been cold and distant with her, which Adair assumed was because of his stepfather. But now, his attitude had shifted drastically, and he finally agreed to be with her. Adair was in high spirits. 

Zavala chuckled. “Which broke boy has you so smitten?” 

At this, Adair glanced at Elara and replied to Zavala, “What do you mean? He’s pretty accomplished, actually. And he’s not some broke guy! I never said that. Zavala, where did you hear that?” 

Not wanting to pry further before things were confirmed, Zavala simply said, “Alright, let’s eat. Let us know when you’re ready.”

At one point during the meal, Elara excused herself to the restroom. On her way out, she bumped into Adair.“Did Aunt Zavala about me and Asher?” Adair asked, her tone wary.

“No, of course not,” Elara denied. “What’s going on with you and Asher? I don’t know anything about it.” 

“Then why did she call my boyfriend a broke boy?” Adair pressed. 

“Why don’t you ask her yourself?” Elara replied calmly. 

Noticing how defensive Adair was, Elara felt a little exasperated. She didn’t care about this drama, yet she was being dragged into it and even suspected of spreading rumors. 

Adair frowned. “You better not say anything.” 

Elara nodded. “Okay.” 

Watching how anxious Adair was, Elara became more certain there was something between her and Asher. 

When Elara returned to the private room and sat back down, Adair lingered behind, sending Asher a message. 

Adair: [When are you going to make arrangements to treat Aunt Zavala and the others to a meal?] 

Asher: [You’re ready for me to meet your family already?] 

Adair: [I don’t know what Elara might have said to Aunt Zavala, but today she directly asked me if I’d found myself a broke boy. 

[I’m worried she’s stirring things up on purpose. It’s better for us to meet them first and clear the air.]

Chapter 184 

When Asher saw Elara’s name mentioned, he hesitated for a moment. 

He had been spending time with Adair these past few days, not because he had strong feelings for her, but because of Daphne. 

He wanted Daphne to see that even if he wasn’t with Elara, he was still someone completely out of her league. 

Asher knew that Adair wouldn’t marry him, but he hadn’t expected her to suggest meeting her family this quickly. 

Sensing his silence, Adair called and asked, “What’s wrong? Do you think there’s an issue?” 

“No, I’ll arrange it,” Asher replied. 

Hearing his agreement, Adair beamed. “Then come pick me up later, okay?” 

“Alright,” Asher said. 

Elara followed Felicity downstairs. The driver was already waiting for them outside. Ahead of them, Adair spotted Asher and walked straight over to him. 

With her sharp eyes, Felicity noticed Asher standing by the car and giving Adair a hug. “Is that Adair’s boyfriend?” she asked. 

“Maybe,” Elara replied nonchalantly. 

“That guy looks a lot like Asher,” Felicity observed. She had recently come across some videos of Asher online and remembered his face. 

Elara shrugged. “Yeah, kind of.” 

“No wonder Zavala’s worried. Adair found herself someone so sketchy. How did she end up with Asher?” Felicity muttered. 

Her lingering impression of Asher was shaped by what happened with Daphne, and it wasn’t a good one.Zavala adored Adair, so naturally, she was strongly opposed to the idea of her being involved with Asher. 

Elara quickly changed the subject. “Should I head home for now?” 

Felicity nodded. “Aren’t you going to stay home for a couple of days? Lysander isn’t around this weekend anyway.” 

“I’ve got some plans this weekend,” Elara replied. “I won’t be able to keep you company.” 

Elara’s workload had been quite heavy lately. After helping Felicity into her car, Elara finally got into her own.

The next day, Saturday, Elara stepped out to meet Natalie for a game of tennis. It was just the two of them; they hadn’t invited anyone else. 

Natalie teased her as they warmed up. “With how busy you’ve been, it’s a miracle you could find time to hang out with me.” 

Elara smiled. “Didn’t you say you were feeling down? It’s only right that I come to keep you company.” 

“It’s nothing major,” Natalie sighed. “Just a pile of nonsense at work. I’ve been so busy, I needed to blow off some steam.” 

They had barely exchanged a few words when a man approached them. “Miss Jarvis, our boss would like to say hello.” 

Natalie looked up and spotted Jack sitting in a golf cart nearby. Dressed in sportswear with a cap on, Jack met Natalie’s gaze and greeted her. “Miss Jarvis, what a coincidence.”

Jack shifted his attention to Elara and smirked. “Ms. Kensington, we meet again.” He carried himself with an air of superiority.
