Chapter 195 

After listening to everything Elara had told him, Lysander didn’t move or respond. Seeing his silence, Elara leaned into his arms, resting against him. 

“I just wanted to tell you what I know. That’s all. No other intentions,” Elara said softly. “Maybe I’m overthinking, but it seems like you don’t hate your father as much as you let on. 

“Of course, if that’s just my imagination, feel free to pretend I never said anything.” 

As far as the Hawthorne family was concerned, she was firmly on Lysander’s side. 

Lysander looked down at Elara in his arms and said, “I never really hated him. Sully’s words didn’t bother me, either. Who knows what he’s thinking over there.” 

“That’s because…” Elara glanced at the man beside her, noting how he was always a little more talkative when it was just the two of them. “You never say anything. 

“People can only guess what you’re thinking. Who could possibly get it right? Sure, I know you’ve always had that stone- faced look and don’t talk much, but they think you’re upset or angry.” 

Hearing this, Lysander leaned in and nipped at her lips. Elara wasn’t sure if he had been listening, but his sudden kiss made her laugh helplessly. “Were you even paying attention to me?” 

“I was listening,” Lysander replied. 

Elara wrapped her arms around him and said softly, “Darling.” 

Her voice was gentle, and Lysander glanced at her, asking, “What is it?” 

“If we have a baby someday, I’m going to take really good care of them,” she said, her tone full of conviction. 

Lysander looked at her intently. “Thinking about having kids already?” 

“I meant someday,” Elara replied, amused by how excited he seemed at the mention of a baby. “I just brought it up casually. Why are you getting so worked up about it?” 

Lysander’s gaze lingered on her face, and he couldn’t help but imagine how wonderful it would be if he and Elara really had a child. 

As he held her, vivid scenes played out in his mind moments of them becoming parents, raising a family together. 

The more he thought about it, the more exhilarated he felt, so much so that he almost wanted to jump up hours just to burn off the energy.

On Wednesday morning, while eating breakfast, Elara made a call to Aubrey. “Has Mr. Hawthorne been to the hospital yet?” 

“He’s been busy,” Aubrey replied. 

Elara sighed as she ended the call, thinking about Wyatt. Despite promising her, he seemed to have brushed it off. He had been in a bad mood lately and wasn’t paying attention to Felicity’s situation. 

The hospital had already recommended surgery for Felicity, but she kept delaying it. Aubrey had spent days trying to persuade her to no avail, and now Elara was worried too. 

As she hung up, Elara let out another sigh.

Lysander, watching her, asked, “What’s wrong?” 

She explained, “Your father still hasn’t gone to the hospital. Mrs. Hawthorne is about ready to be discharged.

“She says she doesn’t like staying there, and now that she’s feeling a little better, she wants to leave. She’s dead set against this surgery.” 

After breakfast, Lysander told Elara, “I’m not driving you to work today.” 

“There’s no need,” she replied. “I can go on my own. You should focus on your own stuff.” 

Ever since she mentioned how much she enjoyed having him accompany her for meals, he had made an effort to spend time with her whenever possible, worried she might get upset otherwise. 

After Elara left for work, Lysander went to see Wyatt. Wyatt had just started his day and was surprised to hear Lysander was there. “Let him in,” he said. 

As Lysander walked in, Wyatt greeted him. “Lysander, what brings you here?” 

“Need your signature,” Lysander replied, placing some documents on his father’s desk. 

Wyatt glanced at them and smiled. “You could’ve just had someone bring these over. Why come in person?” 

“I heard you’ve been busy lately,” Lysander remarked. “What’s been keeping you occupied?” 

At this, Wyatt’s expression darkened slightly. “Has she reached out to you again?” 

“No,” Lysander replied. “She’s sick and needs surgery. If she doesn’t get it, she could die. Elara has been worried about it, so…” 

Wyatt gave a faint, resigned smile. “Elara really knows how to get through to people.” 

He couldn’t help feeling a bit exasperated. His son showed such concern for Felicity’s situation but remained distant and indifferent toward him. Wyatt kept his thoughts to himself, not letting them show on his face. 

“I’ll go see her this afternoon,” Wyatt said simply. He signed the documents and handed them back to Lysander. 

Lysander took the papers but didn’t leave right away. Instead, he stood there, silently looking at his father. Wyatt saw Lysander standing there and asked, “Anything else?” 

“Sully said you don’t deserve to be my father. He told me to leave the Hawthorne family, said I shouldn’t live here or have any connection with you.” 

Wyatt’s expression darkened. His suspicions were confirmed. 

He looked at Lysander and said, “Lysander, I know your mother’s situation made you hate me. But staying in the Hawthorne family will secure a better future for you. Don’t let others sway you.” 

Deep down, Wyatt feared the day Lysander might truly turn against him. 

Lysander, hearing this, sighed and said with a hint of exasperation, “Do you think I’m an idiot? Why would I leave the Hawthorne family? What would I even gain from it? I’m not reckless, and I’m content with my life as it is.” 

With that, Lysander turned and left the room. 

Wyatt sat in his chair, stunned for a few seconds before it dawned on him: Lysander’s message was clear. He wouldn’t be influenced by Sully and had no intention of leaving the Hawthorne family.
