Chapter 249
Elara said, “They’ve all gone home. Oh, except Aubrey. He’s still here.”
As soon as she finished speaking, Aubrey’s voice rang out. “Lysander, you were absent at your big day, and yet Elara didn’t leave you. You’re one lucky man!”
Lysander turned to his younger brother, his sharp ears catching the sarcasm. “What? Do you hope she’ll run away?”
The moment Lysander spoke, Aubrey’s confidence visibly faltered. Despite his inner rebellion against his brother, he instinctively backed down under Lysander’s intense gaze.
Aubrey pursed his lips in silence, while Elara nudged Lysander. Come on, let’s go inside.”
Lysander followed her into the house, glancing at her thoughtfully.
He had anticipated a scene. Perhaps anger or frustration from Eara due to his late arrival. Instead, she appeared calm, even cheerful.
Noticing Lysander hadn’t eaten yet, Elara instructed the housekeeper to prepare a meal. When it was ready, she served him a bowl of soup herself. “Eat up,” she said warmly.
Lysander watched her, smiling but cautious. “You didn’t poison it did you?”
Elara chuckled, sitting beside him and pulling on gloves to shell a crab. “Why would I poison you?“.
Lysander remarked, “I thought you’d be mad. You’re way too composed.”
She glanced at him, amused. “Would you have skipped coming Home without a good reason?”
Lysander replied, “Of course not.”
“Then why would I be mad?” she replied matter–of–factly.
Elara sized up Lysander. “By the way, why did you change clothes? That’s not what you left this morning. Were you sneaking around?”
Lysander groaned, laughing. “Sneaking around with who?”
Elara asked, “Then why did you change your clothes?”
He explained, “I helped a pregnant woman to the hospital. Got my clothes messy, so I had to change.”
Aubrey, lounging on the couch, chimed in. “You’re helping strangers on your big day? Come on, how do you always find yourself in these situations? It’s so staged!”
Elara turned her head and stared at him. “Why are you still here
Aubrey said, “I was going to leave, but I got curious about what my brother was up to.”
“You can leave now,” Elara replied firmly.
Feeling a bit wronged, Aubrey muttered, “Fine, I’ll leave!” His tone carried a deliberately dramatic flair as he walked away.
Lysander watched Aubrey’s retreating figure before turning his gaze to Elara.
Worried that Aubrey’s comments might upset her, he reiterated “I’m telling the truth.”

“I know.” Elara said confidently.
She studied Lysander for a moment and added, “I know you wouldn’t lie to me. Aubrey’s been acting a bit off lately, but I’m fine. My mind’s clear.”
Her unwavering trust made Lysander feel a pang of guilt.
The guilt came from his tardiness and missing such an important occasion.
Even though he had his reasons, he still felt he’d let her down.
“Aubrey doesn’t believe me, so why do you?” Lysander asked.
Elara chuckled. “Would you rather I didn’t? Do you want me to yell at you? Lysander, I don’t want to argue married. We’re both busy. What’s the point of fighting every time we meet? Now, eat up!”
She handed him some crab meat she had carefully seasoned and prepared.
“Thank you,” Lysander said sincerely.
Elara teased with a smile, “Admit that your wife is amazing and is the best person in the world, right?”
“Absolutely.” He agreed without hesitation.

Because of his memories before traveling back in time, there were moments when Lysander found Elara’s unwavering kindness toward him almost too good to be true.

Lysander was eating while Elara sat beside him, scrolling through her phone.
Natalie had shared a video with her. Th
video captured the moment Lysander helped the pregnant woman.
He looked striking and charismatic, sparking a flurry of online discussions among viewers. Some were even asking for his social media accounts.
However, Lysander didn’t have any. He never posted anything online.
Elara sent the video to the family group chat and tagged Aubrey, who had already gone home.
Not long after, Aubrey replied with a simple: [What?]
Elara responded: [You didn’t believe it before. Do you now?]
Her protective tone toward Lysander was evident, even through the screen.
Before Aubrey could reply, Elara added: [Just because you can’t do something doesn’t mean your brother can’t!]
Most people would have avoided getting involved in such a situation, but Lysander wasn’t like that.
If he encountered a problem, he would help, unless he physically couldn’t.
Seeing her comment, Aubrey wrote back: [I was wrong! I’ll apologize to him.]
Later, when Lysander finished getting ready for bed, he opened his phone and saw the exchange between Elara and Aubrey.
Elara, already lying down, was fast asleep.
Lysander climbed into bed and pulled her gently into his arms.

Resting against him, she murmured. “Don’t worry. I already explained everything to my dad today, and he understands?
