Chapter 70 

Elara originally thought the Hawthorne family wouldn’t like her at all. However, when they met, she discovered that was not the case. They didn’t even seem to mind her casual attire. 

The family was quite large, and after a round of introductions, Elara couldn’t remember many names. There was Lysander. his uncle, and others. His father was the second eldest in the family. 

But Elara did recognize a familiar face, the woman who drove a Ferrari and had spoken to Asher at the entrance, trying to take him home. 

She arrived last, and everyone seemed accustomed to her lateness. It was only the eldest uncle who commented on her tardiness. “Evelyn, why do you always arrive so late?” he asked. 

“It’s just a family dinner, not a United Nations conference. You all are too uptight, she replied nonchalantly as she took her 

Elara couldn’t help but stare at her. Felicity noticed Elara’s gaze and introduced them “Elara, this is Lysander’s Aunt. Evelyn Hawthorne.” 

Evelyn’s eyes landed on Elara, and she smiled. “So, this is Lysander’s fiancée? She’s quite lovely,” she said. 

“Hello, Evelyn,” Elara responded politely. 

Evelyn gave her an approving smile in return. She was indeed beautiful, but Elara couldn’t shake the memory of Evelyn being with Asher last time. 

When they were finishing dinner, Elara excused herself to use the restroom. As she entered, she saw Evelyn holding her phone and adding a handsome young man on WhatsApp. 

He looked to be around twenty, still quite young 

Once finished, Evelyn said cheerfully, “Make sure to come find me tonight.” 

The young man walked away, looking a bit bashful. Elara’s eyes widened in surprise at the scene she had just witnessed. 

Seeing Elara, Evelyn didn’t say anything. Elara stepped into the restroom, where she found Evelyn reapplying her lipstick. 

“Hi, Evelyn, Elara said. 

Evelyn glanced at her through the mirror, casually asking. “What do you think of that young man I just added? Is he handsome!” 

Elara hesitated for a moment, wondering if Evelyn would let slip her earlier encounter with Asher. But then Evelyn openly asked her the question. 

“He’s pretty handsome,” Elara replied, 

Evelyn shrugged “Honestly, he’s just okay.” 

“Really?” Elara was surprised. 

“My friend mentioned introducing her son to me. That kid is actually good–looking, but unfortunately, he has a bit of a temper. He hasn’t replied to my messages yet,” Evelyn said. 

For a moment, Elara didn’t know what to say. She felt incredibly awkward, thinking that she and Evelyn weren’t that familiar with each other.

“Evelyn, isn’t it a bit inappropriate for you to tell me all this! Elara said. She genuinely didn’t want to know her secrets. 

Evelyn gave a light scoff at her words. “Are you secretly looking down on me?” 

Elara quickly replied, “No, not at all.”

“It’s normal not to understand,” Evelyn responded calmly. “When you reach my age, you’ll realize how wonderful having a young man can be. You see. There’s no man who is forever eighteen, but there’s always a man who will remain eighteen.” 

Elara found herself at a loss for words. “Well, okay then,’ she wondered. 

As their conversation came to a close and Evelyn prepared to leave, she glanced at Elara. “What was your name again?” 

“Elara,” she answered. 

“Oh, right.” Evelyn said. “Your mother named you. I can never seem to remember it.” 

“Do you know my mother?” Elara asked, curious, 

Evelyn smiled slightly. Tm off now,” With that, she walked out the door. 

When Elara emerged from the restroom, she found Lysander waiting for her by the entrance, holding her bag. 

“Where are your parents?” Elara inquired as she approached him. 

“They’ve all left, he replied. 

“You’re the best,” Elara said with a smile. “You always wait for me! 

Lysander looked at her, recalling how earlier that day, she had said in front of Aubrey that she wasn’t his girlfriend yet. 

“What are you staring at?” Elara asked, raising an eyebrow. 

“I have something to tell you, Lysander said, his expression unusually serious. 

Noticing his somber demeanor, Elara teased “What? Are you about to confess your feelings for me?” 

For a moment, Lysander was at a loss for words. Her comment made his ears turn slightly red, leaving him unsure of how to respond. 

After a brief pause, he finally said, “It’s about school.” 

“What about school?” Elara asked, puzzled 

Lysander seemed to brace himself as if making a significant decision. “Elara, I don’t think I can accompany you to Queensun University” 

He already had a guaranteed spot at Queensun University, and Elara was considering applying there. 

Lysander felt that discussing this with her now felt somewhat unfair. He had been anxious about this matter for days, fearing it would upset her. 

“Why?” Elara pressed. 

“Because I’m going to military school, Lysander explained. “It’s what my father wants, and I’ve already agreed to it. The

“You’re not upset?” he asked, surprised as he looked at her. 

Elara replied firmly. “This is your goal, your life. Whatever you choose, I will absolutely support you.”
