Olivia walked out of the hotel alone and was about to take a taxi home when a Volkswagen slowly drove over and stopped beside her.
She was slightly startled when she saw Xavier's gorgeous face peeking out of the rolled-down car window.
Xavier leaned against the seat lazily as he smiled. The man raised his chin, motioning for Olivia to get in. "Let's go."
Olivia smiled, opened the car door, got in, and asked with a smile, "Are you done with your work already?"
Xavier nodded. "Yeah."
"How did you know I was here?" Olivia probed.
"I was there when you accepted the invitation." Xavier raised his eyebrow.
Olivia was rendered speechless by his words.
They didn't speak to each other as Xavier drove the car slowly.
The radio was playing some soothing, light music. Even though it was supposed to be comforting, somehow, to Olivia's ears, they sounded melancholy and sad.
She looked out the window at the unfamiliar buildings that she passed by. Olivia mocked. "Am I a joke?"
A smile flashed across Xavier's face. "Why did you say so?"
"Even though I knew Emma had an ulterior motive when she invited me to her engagement party, I still showed up. Even though I knew they had never treated me like a family, I was still upset after they schemed against me."
After saying that, she raised her chin slightly and looked at the roof of the car. "Does this mean I'm beyond saving?"
Xavier didn't know what happened inside, but with the weirdos from the Xia Family and her eccentric ex-boyfriend around, things surely were hard for Olivia.
"Do you regret attending her engagement party then?" Xavier asked with raised eyebrows.
Olivia shook her head, "I don't."
"Then don't overthink this anymore." Xavier could have been better at comforting people. The moment he finished his word, he realized the atmosphere in the car had tensed, so Xavier changed the subject.
"What do you want to eat?"
"Beef stew," Olivia replied without hesitation, "I want to drink spicy beef stew."
Xavier smiled mischievously. "Okay."
Half an hour later, the two of them were seated inside a bustling restaurant.
Olivia was waiting for the beef to cook thoroughly in her steaming hot pot of stew as she told Xavier about the technique of cooking beef slices.
"You can't overcook the beef, or else it will be too tough to chew! Just like this, you can drop pieces of beef into the pot, swirl it around, and take them out within eight seconds. Then, dip them into the sauce that I prepared. Ta-da. That will be the best-tasting piece of beef that you will ever have."
With that, she threw that piece of meat into Xavier's bowl, took another piece for herself, and started cooking it happily.
After that, she covered them with sauces and stuffed them into her mouth. Olivia sighed in a satisfied manner as enjoyment flashed across her beautiful, fair face in the midst of the hot steam.
Soon, she finished chewing and was about to get another piece when she saw that Xavier hadn't eaten the meat in his bowl yet. "Why aren't you eating? It's not nice if it's cold. Quick! Eat them now. I'll let you taste more nice food!"
Xavier hesitated for a second, then put the beef covered with spices into his mouth.
An overpowering tartness overwhelmed his throat. He choked, nearly puking out the beef.
But Xavier's good mannerism held him back from doing that as he slowly chewed and swallowed the spicy piece of meat.
"Are you okay? Here. Drink some tea to relieve the spiciness." Olivia handed Xavier the tea from the table.
Xavier took the tea and gave it a big sip. The hot tea, combined with the spiciness in his mouth, gave Xavier a never-before mind-numbing experience in his life.
Seeing Xavier's devilishly handsome face flushed red and his eyes turned misty, Olivia covered her mouth and laughed.
"Don't tell me that you're not a fan of spicy food!" Olivia stated casually.
